We are debating on doing it at the end of August, not sure how many takers there would be

I'm there in a heartbeat. I haven't been camping in a while and I'm itching to go. But the end of August is pretty general - I was planning to go to a camping event hosted by another group on Aug 25th-27th. I'd love to go to both.

Maybe I'll talk it over with the other runner and if he's down we can see about throwing up a poll to see how many people would be interested and for what dates

OMG they're charging THREE HUNDRED A CAMP SITE, Brosnan, my people, for $12 we got you covered for the weekend 🤣 It's our gift to the community, we don't like to money grab like that, it's just about coming our and having a good time.  Not that I wouldn't be open to some huge festival at some point which, yes, would need a higher ticket price, but MANFAST has always and most likely will always be $12 a person.

Yeah this honestly made me a little suspicious but we were going to split one four ways. But also I'm not sure who was actually organizing it, which in hindsight should have made me more suspicious. 🤔 The person promoting it on Facebook where I saw it was not the organizer.

I know this is a Detroit-centered forum but does anyone know the goth leaders in GR?

Yes, we've been doing Goth Camping (i.e. MANFAST for the old goths here) for 13 years, unfortunately we had to cancel our normal event this year in June. We are debating on doing it at the end of August, not sure how many takers there would be.  Scary Guy is correct, and it's not invite only it's technically open to anyone, in the past you HAD to be on DGN or go with someone on DGN to go so it did used to be invite-only.  We generally hold it in White Lake Twp, we are trying to get land for next year, but if we fit one in at the end of August it would most likely be in Oakland County this year.

You (and MANFAST) were the first person I thought about when the topic of Goth Camping came up.  I didn't mention it because I wasn't sure if it was still a thing as I know it happens around your birthday each year.  I feel it would be a great event for newbies to get their feet wet Bacon-style.

And by the way...

Happy Belated Birthday!!!

We have leaders?

I kid.  Though two things come to mind, one you can possibly contact whoever runs whatever club events in GR to ask.  Two is that there is nothing that is stopping you from hosting events yourself.  Be the change you want to see in the world!

Actually I think that Katrina was in charge?? I did some more googling and she seems to be the one responsible for the whole thing. She just kept implying that the team was larger and that she was taking instruction from other people.

(Ie: the same thing that Carslile in the Jax scene used to do that drove me up the wall)

In retrospect it's not super surprising that the event fell through.

Oh that was the case, then? Thanks for digging, I'm not as connected to them as you are, though I'd like to be. Maybe there were co-organizers and she is the only one on Facebook.

No clue. But her focus is very split between the witches of west Michigan, the thrift store she runs, and the Goth events.

But. I have discovered that the young goths in GR go swing dancing (of all things)

I knew they had to be hiding SOMEWHERE. I just wasn't expecting to find them there XD

Are people swing dancing again?  I guess it has been about 40 years since the revival in the 80s, and 80 since it actually started.

Well good for them, I hope it's to actual big band music and in Steampunk/Edwardian garb.

It's a REALLY mixed bag. There where some pin up revival and rockabilly people. They're were some people in their 70's reliving their younger days, probably?

There were a bunch of goths, some plain clothes people, a large group of teenagers who were getting their bearings and your truly was wearing a purple dress with tiny velvet Pokémon on it.

The band that plays (when there's live music) is called Funkle Jessie. They're good, I didn't notice any hiccups or anything and mostly forgot it was live. So very Profesional.

It's $6 and good luck with parking (I got stuck in a parking garage paying like $12)
