Snoring

Fierce Critter

Recommended Posts

My husband snores. Bad. Really, really bad.

I've taped him and played him the tape, and even he's horrified.

He's always snored, though it's gotten much, much worse lately. I have to wear earplugs nearly every night now, whearas before about a year ago, I only had to put them in on occasion.

My own sleep has suffered over the years, and I'm thinking it's related.

I get super bummed, more than I share with him. Mostly because I can't enjoy the kinds of sounds that used to soothe me and put me to sleep. Windchimes we've got outside our window. Crickets. A rainstorm. The purr of a feline bedmate.

I can't even enjoy watching a TV show at night. He goes to sleep about 11:00, I stay up until about 2:00 or so. So he snores beside me, sometimes so loud I have to mute the show I'm watching and read captions instead.

He's a mouth breather at night. I've thought about trying the breathe right strips, but I'm almost positive they wouldn't work 'cause he's so used to mouth breathing - I don't think it's a matter of closed nasal airways.

I've worked with him on his breathing, teaching him to breathe from his diaphragm and not from his chest. He showed progress at one time.

Sometimes if I make him roll over onto his left side, it'll cut the snoring. Sometimes entirely, sometimes just a little.

We're waiting to investigate physical problems that can be causing this until we're re-established in Michigan, with better health insurance than he gets down here. In the meantime, I'm quite miserable.

Has anyone else dealt with this kind of problem? What did you do to make things better? (And no, sleeping in separate rooms isn't an option.)

you described my husband exactly. some nights it is so bad i have gone in the other room to sleep. and when he is on his back, snoring away- almost nothing wakes him up. i have to shake and shake and shake him to get him to even stop/wake up a bit. on his left side- same thing as you said: he will stop or do it less. it has effected my sleep over the years i am sure of it. i can't even go to sleep when he is asleep before me and doing it. and it will wake me up if i am sleeping and he starts up again. i video taped him when we first got married to show him doing it. back then, he laughed. but over the years it has gotten to really be a problem.

i have no suggestions/solutions to offer since my husband has yet to do a thing about it. but if he does, i will let you know. and if yours does first be sure to let me know! i really want both of us to sleep good again.

i have told him i believe he has sleep apnia if that is how you spell it? and he needs to go to the dr!! but since it doesn't even actually *bother* HIM i don't think he cares so much. ;)

We have tried everything short of an operation and I will not make him go through that.

I grind my teeth though so.....I guess I am pretty annoying too.

Those nose strips don't work.

I think smoking makes it worse.

My man is trying to train himself to stop but he is into lucid dreaming so he can kinda control his thoughts and actions while sleeping....it is helping.

I am thinking of getting a CD of nature sounds to kinda help drown it out.

Sometimes I just give up and sleep on the couch but that makes me lonely and uncomfortable.

If you find a solution let me know!
