DAM 2.0 goes on every second Tuesday of the month at the Logan's Roadhouse in Roseville and is now hosted by @Stu.  Runs from 6:00 to close at 10, and possibly ends up at a bar afterward for informal discussion and socializing.

Religious people are welcome but asked to be respectful if they do attend.

Well this is the first time I've ever posted it, and I wasn't expecting it to elicit such a large response.  Though honestly I wasn't expecting @TronRP to feature/pin it either, as it's really not a club thing and I don't really want to annoy or push away any of the religious goths that show up.

That said, there are a lot of events popping up all over now.  It feels like ten years ago again in that respect because they all dried up after a while, with COVID either sending the last of them virtual or killing them off completely.  You can see all of the upcoming events at https://secularalliance.org/index.php/events

There is also https://www.sundayassemblydetroit.org if you want the churchy aspects of religion (fellowship, good works, education) without all the bullshit.

Not to mention everything The Satanic Temple Detroit (no website for the local TST) is doing, which while there is some drama with the national org, the local one is trying to do great things too.  Personally I'm not a fan of the pageantry, but I understand the need for it and can appreciate their goals.

Well this is an event, but while posting any event isn't exactly recruitment it's also not exactly not recruitment either.

It's like if someone were to post a church event or something.  You fully know what they're up to, but whether anyone wants to get involved or not is their choice.

But it's also like the Atheist street teaching we used to do in Royal Oak.  Had a huge sign that said "Ask an Atheist" as people had questions or wanted to debate us (always tried to keep that friendly if they did, though sometimes that was one sided.) We weren't trying to deconvert anyone from their beliefs, we were just trying to share ours and let people know we exist.

Just curious if you're a deist or what you'd describe yourself as then.  I prefer the company of thinkers, and usually I don't care what religion they subscribe to as long as they're nice about it.

Atheist groups are pretty interesting because the only thing we agree on is that there is no god, and even that is up for debate.  Topics I've seen cause points of contention are firearms, government, LGBTQ+, veganism (which may as well be it's own religion), and there was even that one pro-life Atheist I knew.  There are others I'm sure but it's 5AM and I can't recall them right now.  Not to mention the general drama and infighting that eventually happens in any group.  But I've also noticed these groups contain some of the smartest people I've ever met including engineers, computer scientists, other IT professionals, doctors, financial analysts, CEOs, CFOs, politicians that actually have a brain (which is why they never get elected but I appreciate the effort), etc...

I was extremist atheist much of my life, altho I don't think that defines me any longer exactly but neither does anything else. Am I to understand that this next atheist mass will be July 11th-ish somewhere. It might be quite a drive for me but I think I'm interested in just gettin out there to check it out if I can

That's correct yes, and we'd love to see ya out.

I could be called a militant atheist at one point as well.  I still protest on occasion but that's to be expected when someone holds a full on church service in a city hall atrium which is government property (fuck Jim Fouts, so happy he can't run again.)

Others full on hate the religious though, and unfortunately that probably stems from some sort of childhood trauma they endured.  In truth though there are good religious folk out there and I even call some of them friend.  There are even asshole atheists too unfortunately.  It's kind of like someone's faith has no bearing on whether they're a good person or not.

For the most part if the religious folk keep to themselves, keep it out of government, and stop hurting kids I have no issues with what crazy insane inane beliefs they want to have.  They're even welcome to attend our meetings as long as they remain respectful and don't mind all the god bashing.

Yes sir, it takes all kinds of both sides lol. I consider myself pretty tolerant towards just about anyone these days, I guess it's just part of getting older. I should be over to make it over that way after work this week tho so hopefully I'll see y'all out there.
