From one shitty government to a slightly less shitty government.  Maybe at one point this was cause for celebration, but that point has probably passed over a century ago now.  Our government is run by three branches which are corporations, the media, and a bunch of idiots who are somehow smart enough to figure out how to vote but still dumb enough that they don't research who they're voting for or try to change the system so it makes things more fair for everyone and not just the two main parties (which is really just the same one handing power back and forth.)

At least some things have gotten better, I'll admit that.  We still have a long way to go before I feel "patriotic" at all (if ever since celebrating the collective over the individual has never been my thing anyway.)

We celebrate for family whenever we can.  This country was not exactly founded with us in mind as one half of my family is descendant from the slave trade and carry the name of the Clipper ships that brought them to this country and the other half is of the Tribal Nations, therefore, holiday vacation time takes on the meaning of "get with family while you're off" time.

Yeah, J had a "it's a day off party" yesterday, and we just hung out on Sunday.  It's like "thanks for giving us a day off so that it placates us for a little while and we don't revolt and overthrow you."

But yeah, poor folks might as well all be the same color.  I mean it's not like racism doesn't exist, but we are all just vagrants to the rich and powerful.  A resource to be used like electricity, oil, water, etc...  I remember learning in school that we abolished slavery, but we're all still slaves.  The only difference is now everyone gets to house, clothe, and feed themselves and it's not just for white folks.  Not that slavery isn't still going on all over the world either.  That 13th amendment should have been unnecessary, and it was written badly.  All it did was make it so that only the government can legally own slaves.

In fact if it's read correctly it doesn't even outlaw private slave ownership.  It just says no one can be one unless they're guilty of a crime.  It doesn't say if it's civil or federal or not.  So unless there is other legal language preventing it they could go "hey you're guilty of being poor and in public, you're going to go work for Joe Corporation until we decide you've been "rehabilitated" and can be a member of society again.

Once people wake up and realize that there are more of us than there are of them shit is going to go down real quick.  They're just hoping we're so distracted with social media and keeping us fighting each other that we just don't notice.

The real problem is after that who gets in power and how things are reformed.  No one wants to deal with that mess so we continue on with this one as if it's "normal."

This shit was eye opening:
