Help Me Drop 20lbs.

Brenda Starrr

Recommended Posts

Okay. I'm starting back to the gym, slowly cutting out fast food, stopped drinking sodas, and I'm drinking more water. What now? I used to know all of this, but I guess that I've become quite the slacker. I would like to ditch 15 to 20lbs, ideally, before I come back.

I want real advice. Don't fool around. It's time for me to get serious.

I have slowly started my regimine.

I started last week by going to Punk Fitness, (WHICH I will be attending this evening!) and I have not eaten fast food this week! I stopped the soda's years ago....well, now I drink Diet soda only, no juices.

A few years ago, when I was at my thinnest....I lost 17 lbs in 3 months JUST by cutting out Soda, Reducing my meal sizes to Half, and eating ONLY when I was hungry. I ate one peice of candy once a day, and on the weekends, splurged and got an ice cream cone, or a Ho-Ho. I did this for a wedding I was in.

I am in another wedding in a month, so I am on guard now. I HAVE to lose at least 5-10 lbs....this dress is Small! It is a Renaissance style dress that requires my 30 inch waist to be a 24-27 inch waist. I WILL do it. Dammit.

You looked good whe you were here, Brenda but the obvious thing that'll work is what would work for anyone who want to lose weight:

If you eat only healthy things and excercise, eventually it'll catch up with you. Sometimes it's more healthy to just miss a meal than to eat fast food... Basically, no fad diets (such as Atkins, South Beach, etc). Stick to low fat foods (aim for less than 30g of sat fat per day maybe even 25g for a woman) and burn more calories than you take in, excercising. Oh, and a more cardiovascular/aerobic workout rather than a muscle building program. Muscle weighs more than fat-if you build muscle you'll end up weighing more.

Thank you, Paul You're very sweet. I was also wearing a waist cincher! I don't believe in fad diets, so I won't be doing those. And, I do plan on doing the cardio. I'm even looking into kickboxing. I've always known that muscle weighs more than fat, so as long as I'm firm and lean looking, I'm satisfied.

These are the 2 biggest things that are helping me lose weight:

GET ENOUGH SLEEP! When I'm tired I want sugary things and don't want to exercise. Quality sleep makes all the difference.

For eating, don't forget to ADD, not just take away. Giving up fast food is good, but think ahead about what healthy things (pick stuff you LIKE) you are going to eat instead, otherwise you'll find yourself hungry and out of time and fast food is all you can think of to eat.

South beach is not a fad diet. It was designed by a cardiologist and is balanced and healthy. He noticed his cardiac patients not only dropped cholesterol but lost weight and that is how it became popular.

I have to say though, I didn't lose weight on it. It did drop my cholesterol by 110 points. I probably would have lost weight if I stuck to it better and didn't take weekends off.

cut overeating,

cut crappy junk out

drink to quench thrirst and not to get sugars

drink something if a little hungry, sometimes the body thinks its hungry when its actually thirsty (thanks to high calourie drinks), if this dont help it, then eat something decent

i've ben bad this today in order to keep myself awake at work (didnt sleep last night) i had one chocolate bar with 1300 calouries in it (half RDA intake for an adult male) and 1 liter of std red bull (no diet available this morning) ontop of bout 4 wheat buscuits and a splash of full fat milk.

i still fell asleep every 5 mins. or so

Well aside from all the food parts of a diet. Do 6" leg curls.

Damn those things hurt but man oh man do they make your stomach rock hard. Well mine was at one point. Now I'm all chubby again..

Anywho...

6" leg curls. Lay flat on your back. Place your hands palm down under your butt. Not lower back. Butt.

Lift your legs 6"off the ground and hold it. Don't cheat by lifting your head up. Pull your legs into your chest and rest. Put your legs back out without thouching the ground. 6" is the key. Do this for about 10min a day.

I've cut out the overeating, for sure. Hell, when we went to dinner at Cypress, I had Hummus and Greek salad. I would have rather had they gyro!

I'm not bringing junk home anymore. I'm bringing veggies. I know my son will eat them with me. My daughter and Wayne will talk a bit more convincing.

I'm drinking so much more water, or homemade iced tea. It's the whole going back to the gym thing that will help me. Now that I'm not working anymore, I can go as soon as I drop my kids off at their summer program. I prefer to work out in the a.m., so this will be great. Next time y'all see me, I'll be firmer. At least, that's the plan....

Good luck, Brenda. I know that my main problem with dieting is just sticking to it. I LOVE food. In fact, I ate way too much sushi last night. I should have just had one roll with some soup. But NO, I ate fried this and that. I'm sure working out at the gym will help your metabolism and appetite quite a bit though.

i'm 12 1/2 stone (dropped a stone recently)

i'll never get to that unhealthy 8.5, but 11 - 11.5 i'll be happy.

the pair of you look good.

its us men who should be more worried about appearances, as women do tend to call the shots when introducing yourself
