paradox
Really? That explains Yin/Yang in the I Ching so well. NOT. Eastern thought is very left/right black/white good/evil. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> please also take note of the rather large disclaimer above...
Guest Game of Chance
What if its really just three things?? As in...yes, no, and neither yes or no... maybe: yin, yang and tao??? or: Matter, Energy and Neither??
The_Dark
The tao isn't the same thing. The tao is the way.. the moment.. the inbetween what was and what is to be... the now. Yin and Yang are just lenses we use to make sense of the Tao. Labels we put on things.. actions... deeds.... words. Just simple words to mirror our morality on the Tao. A westeren man knew this too... He said "A rose is a rose...."

The_Dark
But they also define each other. If we saw everything as good then everything would just Be and Good would be pointless. The Tao Te Ching says: The ideas "difficult" and "easy" support each other. "Long" and "short" define each other. "High" creates "low" "Tone" creates "noise" "Before" creates "after" "Have" creates "don't have" Things just Are and that is Tao
Guest Game of Chance
And how does that differ from my post??
The_Dark
It's different because in your post you said they cancel each other out... and the Tao Te Ching teaches that they create each other. I'm pretty sure that creating is the exact oppisite of cancelling out. I could be wrong, it's happened before.
Homicidalheathen
I sit up and talk about this stuff with my freinds all night and now its in here! Help! The_Dark
Sometimes they create something new... Wet and Dry create damp.
Guest Game of Chance
Exactly my point Dark. But Wet and Dry no longer exist. Damp is a third and totally different thing that is created from the "ashes" of the union (and then subsequent destruction) of Wet and Dry. Awesome...you totally got it. The_Dark
well, yeah.. The Tao Te Ching was required reading in my fathers household. I do the "sticks" method of the I Ching twice a year and the coin method daily.

phee
Another question.... (assuming you believe in it) Where is the soul "physically" located?
paradox
can the soul be physical at all?
The_Dark
That would fully depend on what a person's view of what a soul is.

Homicidalheathen
Yup, it pays to be a geek sometimes..... What do you think caused the 'big bang' or wasn't there one?
phee
Yup, it pays to be a geek sometimes..... What do you think caused the 'big bang' or wasn't there one? I have two approaches to this question, which may end up being the same. The first one is more scientic.... It has to do with a the "Higgs Field" as weel as "String Theory" and the way that the Universe converts potential energy into ketitic energy. The unverse to be unified into the single point that it must have started as, must have been extremely symetrical and ordered. According to the probability of the Theories equations... there is a minute chance that the Higgs Field would become asymentric for a miniscule fraction of the time, and create the most incredile force of antigravity possible, just long enough to create the universe... this also explains one of the major factors of the seemingly one way nature of time (ie: more and more entropy) The spiritual explination: If there were a 100 percenent omnipinant "God" that has contol of every single last partical and aspect of the Universe, can tell it's future, and it's own personal future.... well then there would be no point in making a Universe in the first place because, because to the God there would be no challenge, no point in createing anything because it already knows every outcome imaginable and every aspect of its will is equal. With one exeption... the one thing that this being would not be able to see, would be what would happen if it stopped existing, IE suicide. In which case we would be the result of this beings death... every molecule in our universe and every feild, and every aspect of energy would be a peace of this being, including us. kellygrrrrrl
The answers have always been there, but like the religionists of the times, many people have blinded their eyes, shut their ears, and hardened their hearts to answers that did not match their human theories or their chosen life-style
