Ebay is bad, Mmmkay?

Recommended Posts

All the time.

I actually found my incoming knee-hi red patent Dr. Martens via an Ebay seller whose auction probably just ended. I ended up buying from a website instead, though.

My favorite black mesh top is from Ebay.

So are my striped tights, the red blouse I'm wearing in my old avatar morph, a leather halter top, my plaid pleated skirt, my witchy boots, and probably a half dozen other items I can't remember.

I sell on Ebay myself. I picked up a dozen fishnet tops from Family Dollar stores down here for $4 each and re-sold them for $9 to as high as $36 each.

I usually don't buy clothing online since I have tremendous issues just going to a store to buy clothes, let alone purchase them sight unseen, unless, of course, it's an absolutely exceptional deal that I feel I can't pass up.

As for Goth gear, I get it where I can. I have a pair of platform boots that I picked up from Meijer. Many of my tops are from the Salvation Army or Goodwill. I have a couple of summer weight skirts that were given to me by a friend's sister because she was going to throw them out. They're far too long but I snatched them up quickly. Heck, in early Fall and late Spring, I still wear my witch-y-ish Halloween costume.

So, at least for me, it really really varies where my stuff comes from.

If all goes well, I'm buying a corset on ebay (after extensive, extensive research, which already eliminated one vendor with excellent feedback; I am way cautious), since I can't get them in the real world where I am and I can't afford most of the standard custom places.

I've gotten a few nice items for next to nothing already and a cheongsam, which I have _always_ wanted, in my size, for about half retail. I went and spent as much to get it altered as I did to buy it (which was the plan from the start. I am not built like a Chinese woman but I've always wanted a cheongsam) It was well worth it. That dress is dangerous.

Well, I won the corset auction. I'm getting my very first custom. It's from House of Worship in Canada, which is tiny (I was worried abt. feedback--100% but only 7 sales-- so I looked around until I found one of their customers on a gothic fashion/costuming forum I visit), but has all very happy customers. The price was really low for a custom.

And the cheongsam got lots of compliments. Best birthday ever. I make no excuses; it was my birthday, so I was entitled to take pleasure in being the center of attention through hotness. Those scene photographers better give me some pictures is all I'm sayin' And quick too. There were a lot taken, so they should show up somewhere.

I've also gotten a bra (just an ordinary bra, not a gothy one, but it cost $2.50 NWT including shipping, with the other thing I was getting from the vendor), a lacy nightgown (for layering in summer--and wearing on NYE--the boi and I stayed in), a really cute sparkly ruched top with little bell sleeves, all for next to nothing.

But then, I'm new at it and have only made a few purchases.

I am soo hooked. It's actually bad b/c when I shop I normally have to at least walk around and get some exercise. And it's so easy to buy lots of stuff without thinking about it.

Ebay is bad mmmkay. Now pass me some more.

ebay good: 3 All arms bergans in british DPM (as used by vehicle crews and sentries/patrolls) for 20, well worth the price on weekenders when you get people tooled up with night vision

ebay bad: seen 3 sets of Bowman PRR headsets. bidding on em to convert to motorolla PMR446

Ebay Verry bad: tempting me away from PMR446 radios (which dont require a liscence and are widespread use) to propper radios requiring liscence (but not sure ministry of defence likes such thing brought on thier land)

I have never bought any ting from ebay but i have bought from other online stores and been rather satisfied. I did how ever buy corrsettes from Fredrick off line (only cause the store was out of black) any how i tried on a diffrent color atthe store went online ordered the size that fit me in the store then when i got the dang thing i was too big... So Brain did some zippin for me on the sewing machine and made it fit. I norammly buy my clothes (and those for my kids) when ever i see sometign that will work. My most recent purchase happen to be at Walgreens ( yes the pharmacy) they had plain black heavy weight t's for $2.50 each so i picked em up for my kid. My fav thing about dressing the way we do is the fact that we have to be so creative and find and discover our cloths. it so much fun getting dressed.

I had a cheongsam, but split it open after gaining about 2lbs. I really wish that they had lycra!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

They tend not to curve much. I got mine, like 4 sizes up, and then had it taken in at the waist. You could try that. Darts are easy anyway, but I went to a tailor b/c my vanity about my waist tends to lead me to take it in too far (we corset nuts are all alike--can't shake the whole tighter in the waist=better idea, and sometimes fail to alter it for clothing not involving spring steel) Anyway, if you get it way big (on Ebay, f'rinstance,) and take it in, you can get a really nice dramatic effect.

Oh, and, be forewarned, the hip measurements are a bit smaller than they sound.
