My daughter and I were walking through the Macomb Mall and she was dressed in her full goth attire as usual.......black huge pants with chains...a shirt that says I laugh because you have all finally driven me insane......and her braclets. She bought all of them there. Two are rubber black spikes...so soft you can bend them by barely touching the tips. And two that were black leather...no spikes or anything just metal designs on the leather, flat and smooth.

So this nasty ass overbearing masculine gospil lovin ghetto security guard lady walks up to us.....mind you, My kid is with her mom who is dressed normal....and inspects her bracelets. Makes a huge deal of it too....tells her she cannot wear them in the mall. That if she doesn't take them off we will have to leave.

So we walk away and my kid starts to take them off and I said don't and she left them on well when we walked back past the lady she was with a other security guard dude and they both looked at us and saw them still on her and didn't say anything.

The funny thing is...my daughter is probably the nicest kid to walk through the place. She just looks wierd. Makes good grades......works......no drugs or drama......sworn virgin for life. Peta member and volunteers with some after school social work program.

I am boycotting that mall now and will be going to Lakeside from now on where A GOTH CAN BE A GOTH

What do you expect? it is the mall after all and they all suck. I've gone to macomb mall many times and never had a problem with any security guards there, than again Im not a little kid so they left me alone....its a sad day indeed when fugly trailor trash mall security guards harass young children....those dirty bastards.

Well, think of it this way - she's got a dead-end job, probably pulling minimum wage and probably just stands around all day doing nothing.

She sees a chance to actually use her silly mall security guard authority (I can imagine how animated she probably got, when she had day after day of nothing to do) and so she goes for it! Wow, so impressive! Telling a child to take off a rubber bracelet. Wheee!

On the other hand, I would have made my kid quietly put the bracelet away, all the while snickering to myself and probably discussed how silly it was later. I believe there has to be a balance between expressing your own style and not causing undue ruckus in a public place.

If she was ugly about it though I wouldn't hesitate to cause one hell of a ruckus to the mall management.

It was a silly thing for the security guard to do though.

I grew up in farm country.... so when I got older and started being "goth"... it was more of an amusement for them.

It was really fun buying a shopping cart full of booze and beer all gothed out.... but the old ladies at the supermarket at midnight though it was pretty funny.

"well now... another halloween party?" snicker snicker.... "do you have a drinking problem?" snicker snicker

my response:

"Yeah everyday is halloween... and yeah there's not enough days in the week to drink all this stuff by myself... good thing your grandaughter loves to get wasted and party"

my sister and i never have a problem when we go to the macomb mall dressed all goth-like. chances are that the mall mounty was having a bad day, and needed feel better about herself by picking on someone that was "different."

funny thing is that when they have tried in the past to say something to me, or my sister, i'd just look at them, smile, walk away, then make very loud comments about how they must feel so much better for having pin pointed yet another set of goths running around the mall. they left us alone after that. made them feel stupid for stopping us in the first place when we weren't doing anything except walking. ooh, scary! can't walk in the mall, now can we. ....

where's a straw when you need one. hand them the straw, tell them to look through it, and walk away. it's the same concept. can't see much, just enough. stupid people.

I agree. It's a chance for them to wield the little power they do have.

Its sad, but it probably made the guard feel better, before going back to her dead end job.

As long as your girl knows theres nothing wrong with her, Id go back.

Life sucks, and sometimes we feel the need to make others miserable to make ourselves feel better
