Asshole, prick, bastard...

I heard a story on NPR yesterday. They interviewed the foreman for the grand jury on the first indictment. He said the charges are well-founded and furthermore, that the jury was composed of liberals, conservatives, and independents, and their decision was unanimous. Liberal Democratic witchhunt, my ass.....

Now a second indictment... =)

The hammer may get tossed back into the foundry.... Heh.

As much as it delights me to see Tom indicted, it's not like these charges are for anything substantially evil. They both lie in the murky domain of campaign finance law, where the boundries are already fairly arbitrary.

Now if they could just get him on that puppy-strangling charge....

I guess Dan.

You could say something similar about all the people involved in the corporate scandals too. Vague laws... didn't kill anyone... blah blah blah. I think the point is he will bend whatever rules he needs to benefit his party and himself. THAT causes major harm to the overall balance of power in both the Texas and federal legislatures, ad infinitum... And THAT , I feel, deserves a significant punishment.

Plus... I will almost universally not like someone that aquires the moniker "hammer". Like I'm supposed to be impressed that he's a ruthless jerk??? Uh..no.

I think I might just start a thread on bad puns about his name....

With Mr. Delay... He seems to be big on a moral high ground, which is where the dramatic irony comes into play... And yes it is not like I don't think that every other politician is just as bad, it is just in this case it is the pot calling the kettle black.... or something hypocritical like that.

Yeah, that is indeed the funny part.

I think the corporate scandals are worse because that involves actually stealing money. This is more just donating money, but then bouncing it around in a way that it gets to a political group that you can't donate directly too. I agree it's wrong and he should be prosecuted though, certainly.

What I find funny about this whole mess is that Delay is being charged for breaking laws in 2002.. that didn't get passed until 2003.

I heard that too. There must be something more to it... how would it have gotten through the grand-jury otherwise? A judge has the ability to toss it on grounds like that right?

From what I have been able to find... this case was thrown out of one GRandJury after another for either lack of evidence or the fact that there was nothign to the charges. One will note that the grand jury that did finally indite him is located in the same county as the people that created the false memos about President Bush's military career that CBS used.

I don't think that will be the case this time. I think once this really goes to court and all the facts come out it will be shown that Delay was working within thelaws of the time. Earle has been after Delay for 10 years... trying to pin anything he can on him.

OR at least not breaking the laws any more than any other politician
