Vater Araignee
I have a tendency to purchase from the super discount rack that way most have either thrown theirs away or stooped wearing it. Plus I customize and make a lot of my own stuff. If its main stream or not I could give a rats ass. I just don't want to see tourists gawking pointing and giggling. On the streets its one thing on the scene its grounds for a stomping.
the eternal
Now, I know Hot Topic is big, but they draw in a wide net. Johnny Cash Tees, Ramones, Led Zepelin, Punk, goth, everything, really. I dont see The Cure dominating the airwaves or anything. (Bloodflowers aka Disintegration part II, was great a few years ago, but no hit single) It seems like Goth will stay on the fringes, even if you can dress for it at HT. I mean I've been to alternative clubs in Chicago (as well as Luna), and the vast majority of people do NOT dress gothy. Just because little Tiffany got herself a corset, does not a subgenre change make. Yup.... remember when "Industrial" became popular, you had your NIN, and then it was followed by Gravity Kills, Filter, etc... ? It's all gone now, Good question... For me, I simply like what I like if it became popular, well then some of my favorite artists might get more production money and raise the recording quality so.... there you have it. Good points, as always, Phee. I remember grunge getting big overnight, too. all those guys wore dumpy clothes because thats what they could affored. I saw Nirvana on their bleach tour at a hole in the wall. The cool part is when a few oddball groups get big, everyone's like "Who's the next oddball group. He goes on stage and plays with his dick for 45 minutes? Signed! And often times, a few of the less popular groups that ride the wave are even better. But they'd never get a second glance without a little exposure. I like alot of the more gothy stuff coming out in music and I LOVE the current fashion trends. In my mind, the fact that it has become "trendy" is irrelevent, because I am not interested in the gothic subculture to be "different" but because it's aesthetics greatly appeal to me. Since this is my reason to like things goth, it's actually GOOD if it becomes more commonplace for awhile. I can listen to the radio without cringing, and I can find clothes in actual stores. It's amazing and wonderful. Don't worry.. it'll phase out eventually and then we'll jsut have all this new "gothy" stuff that was easier to get than usual. =) Everything cycles EVERYTHING cycles. Black is in now. It'll be out soon again. What Ill never be able to understand is how some bands fade away or come back in force. The Pixies and Bauhaus are more expensive than they've EVER been. Front 242 is only $20. Am I the only one still "looking for this man to sell him to other men, for ten times his price at least"
