Guest Game of Chance
There is a movement out there for a 23% sales tax on all goods...and no other taxes beside that. He (my boss) and I are very much behind this idea.
Hellion
:devil There are also some states that have a per capita tax, a tax on your own body. I found this out from my mom when she worked at CITI Mortgage awhile back. Its Like ten or more you have to pay on your own body, this nation is really turning into BULLSHIT!! He (my boss) and I are very much behind this idea. That doesn't work... the poor are left with no way to afford goods. With the internet you could mail order everything from outside the country and never pay a dime in taxes.... All the so-called "simple" plans usually overburden one group or another. Usually the poor.. the people who can least afford it and who are least able to speak up in their defense. Not that what we have today is all that spectactular... :whistling

Think about it bud. People with more money buy more goods. They would in turn pay more in taxes. I'll have him give me the site tommorrow.

Now you and I, Who pay a fair bit in taxes... this works out fine. For the poor,, who may not pay any, this is a huge burden. See what I mean? And nody outside the country is going to add taxes to their stuff on the internet if they don't have to. Nor should people outside the US pay for stuff here with all that tax on it if they don't live here. Right?

It may increase demand for foreign goods, but wouldn't that drive the price up anyway?

The_Dark
One flat rate tax has been shown to be the best model over and over again by econimists. It evens things out and makes life far easyer, even on the poor. The poor benifit because many of the taxes they pay right now go away. As for what happened... we got rid of the Gold standard and sold ourself into debt with the world bank.

I am oppossed to a consumption tax like Game of Chance is suggesting for the reasons MrBeau pointed out, but a flat income tax would work best. It would also simplify the tax code and render the IRS almost irrelevant. You can check out Steve Forbes book "The Flat Tax revolution". The main reason, in my opinion at least, there is no flat tax now is that the two main political parties can't use tax breaks as incentive for support, the quid pro qou of fincance contributions in exchange for tax breaks should be illegal, and would be non existent under a flat tax. In Eastern Europe they introduced a flat tax in several of the Soviet sattelite Countries (Estonia, Latvia, Russia, etc etc) in the late 1990's and their economies flourished. Now, you'd still have to have a consumption (or sales tax) on certain items, but a flat sales tax of 2% on all non perishable goods would be fine. Also, we could eliminate pork barrel spending to counter any loss in revenue inherited by a cut in sales tax.
phee
I would have to agree as well.... Tax Breaks for those who don't need it makes about as much sense as the other rediculous extreme of taxing some people more than others.... Taxes are not the cause of the countries problems
