Hitler, Death Penelties, Abortion and false ads.

Caught this from FactCheck.org today. A lot of interesting issues come to mind...

"A TV ad for Jerry Kilgore, Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, says of his Democratic opponent: "Tim Kaine says that Adolf Hitler doesn't qualify for the death penalty." Actually, Kaine didn't say that.

Kaine, who opposes both the death penalty and abortion on religious grounds, gave an equivocal answer to a newspaper interviewer who asked if Hitler, Stalin or Idi Amin "deserved" the death penalty. Kaine said that "they may deserve the death penalty" for their "heinous" acts. But Kaine also said, "God grants life, and God should take it away."

Kaine also has said repeatedly that, despite his religous beliefs, he would carry out the death penalty if elected governor. The issue has become the main focus of TV ads by both candidates."

OK... after re-reading the above and then actually reading the full text i see where I made my mistake... I got the people mixed up... The fact that someone does this kind of thing still pissed me off. If you cant get elected on your own merits.. get out of the election.. twisting other peoples words into something completly other than what they said is wrong. Unfortunatly, it's a standard tool in moderen politics. And yes, I still think it's liberal bias. If a Liberal made false claims against a conservative it would be on CBS in a Dan Rather special.

I forgot how DGN political debates work... I still don't know what the point of the thread is.

You got the primary point I had in my mind perfectly. ALL polititians do this crap and it sucks. Many of us snoop around the internet to some degree or another (Or go to other media sources) to do follow up on claims like this. Many people don't and that's why these ads keep getting made... the people that produce them KNOW that a lot of people don't bother to check.

When Liberals make false claims it's all over Fox News and Rush Limbaugh's show and the other conservative-owned corporate media outlets. (Sinclair, etc) Personally, I think the journalist in this case was doing more to discredit Kaine rather then help him. How is that liberal media bias?

...and tossing out Hitler..or Stalin? Cmon!! What govenor is ever going to have to deal with a man convicted of killing 6 million people? Something I DO hate in some areas of journalism; Sensationalizing. Just tell me the story. The WHOLE story... That's why I love NPR so much. They take the time to broadcast 5 and 7 minute segments , that go into all sides of the story in detail.

That's all for now. I had more to say but I'm tired....
