The Proudest day of my life

Recommended Posts

Well, Ladies and Gentlemen, I just got back from the Military Entrance Processing Station a couple hours ago. I am one of America's Army; one of the newest Soldiers.

I signed up, I leave Nov. 15th for training in Fort Leonard Wood.

There's no drug, no other thing in this world that can give me the high like I got when I held my right hand in the air and took an oath to my Country. Except the day I graduate training, this is the best day I've ever had in my life. I even overcame the challenging physical tests I had to do at MEPS.

I had to do this "step test" where I basically stepped up onto a platform that sits 18" off of the ground, to a 4/4 beat that they played from a boombox.. Essentially you just step up and step down at a strenuous pace and it's about the equivelant of skipping a stair when you walk up stairs.. Except you have to do it for 5 minutes without slowing down or missing a beat.

Considering that I have been up since 11:30 am Wednesday, and have a bad cold, and already had sore legs from running on Tuesday, I think I did really well in passing that particular test. After about 2 minutes I wanted to die, and then I just turned off my mind and kept pushing on.

I'm so ready for this. I can't wait, and I'm so proud of myself that I've been holding back tears of joy ever since I left the Swear-In Ceremony.

Just thought I would let you guys know.

Yours Truly,

PFC Warner, US ARMY

DUDE!!!! I went to Leonard Wood for my Basic way back in 1984!!! your going to be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy out in the middle of nowhere in Missouri. Bugs as big as an apple. When you do bivouac (you'll know what I mean in time) and your in a tent with your buddy - y'all be huggin up cause your going to be cold cold cold. Your going to LOVE learning the different weapons and shooting on teh night fire range. Dont get caught up in anybody's drama. Be freindly, be yoruself, but stay the course and learn everythign you can. Your entire body will be protesting against what your putting it through - but you'll be strong as shit when you get out - its amazing the difference. Your also going to learn what hardcore is - theres nothing more hardcore in the world than some crusty old drill seargent....beleive me them boys are the real deal.

Proud of you.

Takes guts and honor to do what your doing.

And it will change you forever.

Learn learn learn learn learn.

Soldier to soldier - its wartime now - if your shit's weak, you'll die.

But if you keep your head - you'll live to tell many stories.

Keep your head and never say "I Cant".

Soldier on my brutha, soldier on......

Steven

Thank you, all of you. :)

Just as an FYI to everyone you can catch me one last time at CC on the 29th, I hear there's a party that day, as well, if I can figure out when and where I'll try to make it to that as well.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate the words, really.
