Onyx
I'll try to get someone to take a photo of what I was wearing, but I had the strangest experience last night. My oldest girl went out with friends and I took my youngest out trick-or-treating in the apartment complex where we live. This is a pretty big place, about 20 buildings of apartments in the complex with about 40 apartments in each one, and I keep to myself and not many people here have actually met me, so most of the doors we went to were people who haven't met me. My hair wasn't really any different than usual. I was wearing black jeans, a burgundy sweater (sort of matches my hair color) black tennis shoes and a leather jacket. My jacket was open since it wasn't that cold and you could clearly see my sweater, so I wasn't all in black or anything. My youngest daughter was dressed as a witch. First few apartments - routine trick-or-treat and thank-you-bye. We went to an older lady's place and she complimented Jill on her witch outfit and said "OH, look, Mommy is dressed up too!". Huh? I figured maybe her eyesight wasn't that good since she looked to be in her 80s. I didn't know what to say so I just laughed a bit and moved along. A few doors down - same thing happened with an older gentleman. I'm thinking OOoookay. Everyone needs glasses tonight. Then later in the evening as we were hitting the last few doors a younger lady said "oh, how cute - mommy dressed up too" and that *really* freaked me out. I'm really puzzled. I could *maybe* have understood the mistake if I had on a long skirt or something, but black jeans and Reboks? and my leather coat with a burgundy sweater? I really thought I was looking pretty normal.

saechalyn
Yikes. Not surprising though, people have referred to my normal (for me) every day clothes (around non-halloween time) as my "costume." "Normal" people are nuts.
The Void
Old people especially can be very stupid since their sense of time, reality and what century it is can be beyond warped. Perhaps they thought you were dressed as someone from the future *lol*

pomba gira
I got into a bar for free one Halloween, for having a costume on- it was actually the same thing I'd been wearing for 3 days 'cos I had'nt been home. I had a similar experience to Onyx yesterday, where someone mistook my normal clubwear for a costume... older lady walking a dog at the rest area where I changed clothes. When I told her it wasn't a costume, you could see her trying to get her mind around the idea... & wondering if she should toss the black lab in the minivan & get the hell out of there. Onyx
This is the weird thing though - it wasn't gothy looking at ALL. Not even all black. Black Reeboks, plain old black jeans, burgundy sweater, black leather coat worn open so that the sweater showed. It didn't make sense. What the hell did they think I was dressed as???!! Now I wish I'd have asked the younger lady to tell me what she guessed I'm dressed as. hmmm... Am I putting out vibes that tell them I'm a little strange? Heh. Marblez
Might be the makeup. Were you especially made up?
Onyx
No. Not at all. Well, I do like my bright red lipstick but damn, maybe I'm overdoing it and didn't realize it? My everyday makeup is like what's in my avatar.
Draco1958
Maybe they thought you were doing a 50's costume.
DisturbedMania
I dunno. Maybe it's my aura, but when I get gothed up and walk around grocery shopping little old people give me compliments and tell me to never change. And, all the teenage boys look at me like a piece of meat. I'll never get why people are thinking you guys are in costumes.
