Lilith
i am on the hunt for a Drum Kit For my Kid. .......this is what he saw and pointed out as He said i want a drum kit. Now i do not want a Junior drum kit, and i really dont want to buy a drum kit form sears, some how it just seems wrong to me, i want something that will sound good and is a Real instrument and not an over Priced toy, he has really been in to the school band and praticing and he picks up quick, so i just want some thing that will be around for a bit, that he could add to and be proud to have etc......If the kid is going in to that direction i just see no reason to spend that kind fo money on soem thing that will have to be replaced soon due to lack of quality. I have heard the Following are good ~ Pearl~ Vex~ Yamaha~ Pdp~ Dw Pacific~ and Gretsch I would like for it to have all the stands, the 2 difrent symbols and the 5 difrent Drums and pedals i would like it to be comparable to what is on the web link but of a better quality. I am looking to spend about $200- $250 and would entertain other sets for more etc as i might be able to save a bit more as the days go on =) ...... as this will be a christmas gift. So if any one is looking to get rid of a drum set or knows a good place to get decent cheap used stuff please let me know Thank You lilith
torn asunder
let me know if you come across any extra sets, as that's the price range i'm looking at, as well... sorry i can't be of help, tho, but good luck!
Aralis
I have been wanting one too as well. I wanna learn to play. I think it would be something that would keep me entertained for hours. My ex had a kit and I loved it. He couldn't get me away from it most the time and I would sit there and experiment.
Lilith
Well I have learned this is going to be tough.........I have the word out a few freinds who allways seem to get Kick AZZ stuff for free or cheap, LOL hell the one guy i was talking to about drums also found me new rims and hopefully tire for my car ( one of my rims are bent and i need at elast one new tire) with one phone call and i wil either get them for free or have to pay the price the guy would get at the scrap yard for the aluiminum......or i might just be able to get away with swapping my crappy rims n tire with his better ones.... the point is I have hope but i know it is going to be tough.......If i find anyting extra i will deffinatly post here...... Kiss The Midget
before you buy somthing like that from SEARS , try guitar center they have really good drum stuff for cheap. Or try percussion world in ferndale. as a drummer i would tell you to look at a music store before you buy.
Lilith
OH i already knew the sears one was crap... and i talked with two guys at gutiar center on the phone and in person for some time on friday and got some good ideas as far as cheaper brands i might find at that price used told me what to look for in general for a good sound and what not to wrry about.. like heads... crappy heads can be changed for a failry decent price.......he aslo told me the brands that are cheap to just plain out stay away from......... Right now i am looking at dw pdp grestch.....but i am fining that used sets of those seem to be more expensive then the perals and ludwigs....... I am trying to get my mother in law to throw her christmas budget in as well because Cody has told me he only wants this drum kit and a CSI kit from toys r us and nothing else.........Linda does not want him to just get two gifts but i see it as if that all he reall ywants why not get him what he wants... idont know i would rather get one thing i really want instead of a bunch of shit i dont even care about and be dissapointed on christmas...... any how if any one comes across soemthing please let me know and as i said if i find more then one i will deffinatly post. slingerlandstyx
I've been contemplating selling my kit... I don't get much use out of it anymore, but that's mostly because I can't keep it at home so I have to go to HH's to play it. I don't have a lot of spare time. n0Mad
Or try percussion world in ferndale.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> I second Percussion World. Also, you might try JC's Drummin' Music Center (formerly JC's Custom Drums). You can get a decent Pearl or Tama used for around your price range. Also you might look for TKO (which is a crap brand but I refinished mine and they came out really nice) or Mapex which are both cheap but decent starter sets. Gretch, Sonor, and DW are all phenominal, but you'd be looking to pay your budget or more for EACH drum. For cymbals, you can never go wrong with Sabian. The Zildjian family has been making some of the best cymbals in the world for decades, however one of the family members disagreed with some decisions his brothers had made so he took the secret recipee to Canada and started Sabian. Or so the story goes. Every year JC's has a 50% off cymbal sale and it's coming up next week I think.

Lilith
oh also does it matter what type of wood the drum is made of......I know laquered wood is good and the more ply's the better???? but does it matter much if it is maple or birch or popular???? and what would be the lowest layer of ply to look for? Just a bunch of questions i forgot to ask the guys at GT and they never metnoned it... and now i find while looking at websites and things actually for sale i am completely lost when it comes to what would be to low and what would be just enough. I know i am not going to get the best, i just dont want some thing that is just plain out crap. My biggest worry is if i get some thing that is crap no matter how well he plays the sound will piss me off .....If i have to here it it might as well sound decent ya know.
