Overated?

Head Wreck

My pick has to be Metallica, the most overated for sure. They used to be great and then they cut their hair and changed their sound and their last album st. anger was horrible, but was still #1 on the charts forever. Bring back the old style boys, they are missed dearly.

The Clash - Fuck the Casbah

Pink Floyd - I like them...especially their stuff with Syd Barret, but I think they are very much overrated

Depeche Mode - Never liked em, never will.

VNV Nation - They are not, repeat, not an industrial band

more to come...

coldpaly (whiney voice, unexciting drum rhythm that doesnt change from song to song, unexciting music in general with a whiney tosspot for a frontman who has a punchable face)

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

No. Just no. I love them. If you want overrated, check out Metallica. Or Slipknot. They really blow.

Coldplay - HW said it perfectly. Yawn anyone?

Radiohead - Just a boring, pre-Coldplay. Zzzzzzz....

Manson - Phee ripped the words out of my brain. Again, yawn.

The Clash - I would never have been brave enough to state that first. Ditto Pink Floyd. I can't appreciate their so-called "genius" the same way I can other artists of which I just plain don't like their sound. Such as Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin. Can't stand their music, but I recognize what gifts they had.

I'm gonna go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out on a limb here and bring up Paul McCartney. He has had moments of solo genius. But in a big, big way, he's nothing without a good producer or writing partner. Supposedly, his new album is his best in many years. But I've also read what a heavy influence the producer of the album had on him.

On his own, he's a loose cannon without focus that often strikes me as tone-deaf, self-indulgent and trite.

Also off the top of my head - Usher. What do people see in this guy? I know it's not a kind of music I like all that much. But his sound is bland, his dancing - which is so girly-scream-inducing - is awful.

Ani DiFranco, Liz Phair, insert-angry-indie-chick-here - I tried. I gave up. I just don't get them.

Madonna - I fucking hate the bitch. But that's personal. :whistling

Yep. McCartney sucks.

I like the Kid A and OK Computer records by Radiohead...other than that, you're right its pretty much a snoozefest. Same for Coldplay. How are those guys fucking millionaires??

If we are talking just goth/industrial/synthpop/ebm/darkwave/etc music then:

Cruxshadows. Ok I like them. I like listening to them. But they aren't as good as many others who do the same type of thing (such as Clan of Xymox or Razed in Black for example) and I just find Cruxshadows to be.....mediocre.

VNV Nation. Again, I like them, some of their songs ROCK, their newest album is really good. But to be played at City Club 4 times a night every single week? To be considered one of the best EBM groups out there? I'm not sure. ANd Game of Chance....they never claimed to be industrial - their earlier stuff definately has traces of industrial music but I doubt they call themselves industrial now.

Nine Inch Nails - I used to like Pretty Hate Machine and a few songs after that, I liked 'Dirt' quite a bit. However I heard NIN at city club a few weeks ago and it made me squirm, his voice is terrible and the lyrics are juvenile, the arrangements sound like they were written by random note generator.

People still refer to them as an industrial band...

Wolfshiem: You know, I just might not be cool enough to understand them... but I just don't get it...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

If I may offer a defense of Wolfsheim here.......I think they are pretty awesome. My only problem with Wolfsheim is their "fans". They are no different in sound than to Red Flag, Nueroactive, Iris or a number of synthpop bands out there but people like them because they are on Metropolis (in the u.s.). If Wolfsheim's albums were EXACTLY the same but were released thru A Different Drum then no one at city club would care about them. It goes to show that people in this "scene" are as pretentious as in the indie rock scene. Shameful.

Agreed, I'm still crazy for Pretty Hate Machine. But anything else is either "eh" or "blah".

tbh, never liked pretty hate machine. downward spiral is my NiN album

with teeth, i like 70% of it. but it hardly gets played (impulse preorder, at the time i liked the preview)

nirvana.

so many claim this band to "change thier musical tastes and thier lives" fact is nirvana is typicaly played by 15-17 year olds in a scruffy collage phase, then they go back to being an indie bed wetter. (i had a nirvana phase, and i cant stand the stuff past the 4th full moon on my 17th year, odd huh?) white zombie changed my life, i went back to radiohead after my nirvana phase, white zombie brought me back to metal after my indie phase (me trying to fit in with school/collage, failing misserably), but it also led me onto psychobilly... the rest, step on step on
