I really can't believe it and I am sure I am not alone. Over the course of my life I have always been amazed on how Detroit voters always seam to favor a horrible canidate over another who will at least attempt to turn things around. For example former Mayor Coleman Young was a crook. He stole the people's tax money for his own personal use and he later admitted it, and yet the people of the city loved him like no other and was re-elected time and time again. That is just one thing out of the many negative things that he did, but the people didn't even seam to care and loved the man. Even during this past two mayor debates live on television both Kwame Kilpatrick and Freman Hendrix said how great of a man Coleman Young was and how they hope to follow in his footsteps. WHAT? DID I HEAR THAT RIGHT? Luckily Mayor Dennis Archer did try turning things around When Young finally retired from politics. Archer did many things to better the city and he brought back much business to the downtown area and things were looking up. Then Kilpatrick took office. After 4 years of lies, cover ups and conspiracy how can this man win a re-election? Many magazines such as Time in recent months have even crowned Kilpatrick as the worst mayor in America. I will say it again, I have always been amazed on how Detroit voters always seam to favor a horrible canidate over another who will at least attempt to turn things around. 4 more years of him and there will be nothing left. Still he must not be felling so good about his re-election knowing that 47% of Detroit voters want him out. Oh well, the downward spiral continues. 4 more years.

Old joke :

Why does SpongeBob SquarePants hate Detroit so much?

Because Kwame Kill Patrick

BTW... Kilpatrick is a Democrat.. and Detriots population is mostly Democrat.. to the point that even though most of the rest of the state is Republican.. we are considered a Blue State. His winning doesn't surprise me as so many Democrats refuse to vote Republican even if the republican is the better canidate.

NPR my dear... NPR.

Read a few objective online sources too.  If there are any....  :whistling

Well, something like that. I have NO IDEA what's going on in the world usually.

...I definately need to fix that.

Thank you for pointing that out. That is so true. A person should vote for who the best person they think is, not because of political party....I find that to be retarded. There was a reason he was voted as worst Mayor in the US, but yet those idiots still voted for them. Just glad I don't live there or I would definately be moving

NPR isn't all that objective either... They lean far to the left.

I disagree completely. First... a lot of the stories are truly "in-depth".. as opposed to the five second blurb you get on most radio/TV shows. So I feel like I've truly heard enough to understand and form an opinion. Two... I can't count the number of times that they've had both liberal and conservative pundits/experts give opinions in the same story. I think they make a bigger effort then anyone else I've ever heard to be "fair and balanced". Unlike the station the uses that tag line. Third... At the very least, acknowledge that NPR doesn't treat news as just another form of entertainment... an entity to gain "market share" like most of the corporate news stations do. Last... You complain about liberal media bias when in fact, most media outlets are owned by large corporations, whose owners don't seem particularly upset that THEY skew the news to THEIR (conservative) agenda. It wasn't always so, but it is now.

Explain g-homie...??  If you mean black...yes...  Or do you mean a certain kinda personality?  Like hip-hoppy...?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

G-homie's are not nessecarily black, but most are. Case in point -- Eminem. He's not from Detroit, but he is a g-homie.

OK. I don't think it would be fair or accurate to characterize most of Detroit as being "g-homie" then... I think, like everywhere, a lot of people get suckered in by false ads and the simplistic media reporting... and they choose to ignore the record. Go figure...

interesting term....lol. Yeah it is like that in many areas in Deroit, while it is really hit or miss in others. I know a few of these g-homies myself, but even they told me they voted for Hendrix so I really am amazed on the election outcome.

Hey, I could be wrong, I've never lived in Detroit nor anywhere nearer to Detroit than where I am.

Back on topic...  I can't believe they voted him back in.  Democrat or not... he didn't deserve to go back.  I'm wondering when thugary, nepotism and mean-spiritedness were good reasons to re-elect ANYONE...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

True. I don't really side with a party myself, I just vote for who I think is the better person ....... or at least the one I believe is full of less shit. I know Detroit is largly on the Democrat side of things. I remember last year Kilpartrick was telling Detroit voters and the voters of the metro area to vote for Kerry. I thought to myself well there goes Kerry's chance of winning the election. Turns out Kerry won the state of Michigan, but still lost the election to Bush phase 2. Bastards!

She maybe stated things in a 'less than politically correct' way, but there is an element of truth to her post. Even Kwame said it last night when he was down in the polls he said "now we'll hear from the streets!". He called himself "America's first hip hop mayor". The young hip hop generation in Detroit love the guy, they love the fact that he has "ho parties" and has a posse and spends money on bling. The older people of Detroit supposedly voted en masse for Hendrix.

To the Dark's point, I think a Democrat is better for some situations and a republican is better for others, in Detroit's case I think a Rudulph Guliani type mayor is desperately needed, so a republican would - in my opinion - be better for Detroit. We really need to take the streets back from the thugs and drug dealers. I lived on Forrest and 2nd street and I couldn't even go out at night without getting harrassed. The population is dwindling, tax revenues are hard to find, and now a thief is back in office.

Detroit will NEVER change. The people want a Ghetto mayor? Fine, then you get a Ghetto for a city. I'll stay in the suburbs like most other people while you play your stupid little game.

I missed the actual broadcast. But apparently Deminsky & Doyle were at polling places in Detroit yesterday, and were talking to people, and bringing up all the scandals around Kilpatrick. The people were nodding and saying, "yeah, yeah, that's pretty bad" and basically admitting they knew of the BS Kwame has done.

But when they finished by saying, "so, who did you vote for?" they all answered "Kilpatrick".

WTFE. When it comes to mayoral races, I tend to let my liberalism/Democratic leanings go by the wayside and look at who is least corrupt. Had I been a Detroit resident, I would have voted for Hendrix - easy.

According to Demographics.. Detriot is 73.1% white, 21.1% Black and the rest is mixed....

As for NPR.. they do give an indepth look at things and do tell more of the story than any other major news media.. but that does not change the fact that they lean far left. They admit it. They recently fired one of their major news talkers because he was so far left (can't remember his name right off), and then publicaly stated they were going to start moving closer to the center of things.
