Jarodaka
BTW... Kilpatrick is a Democrat.. and Detriots population is mostly Democrat.. to the point that even though most of the rest of the state is Republican.. we are considered a Blue State. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well, yeah, have the Democratic mayor and our electoral votes when to Democrats the last two elections. We also have two Democratic senators. (8 Dem reps, 9 Rep reps [heh] ). If anything, I'd say it's fairly close (as were many of the election results), but MI has certainly tilted away from the Republicans since Bush II. Nationally, at least, we're a little more blue. Guest Megalicious
I couldn't believe when Jarod told me this morning. And as I made my way from washing my face to starting at a computer screen, somehow allowing myself to read with I thought was IMPOSSIBLE. I had to take a min. to pick my jaw off the fucking floor. I love Detroit. Not that I have been here very long, but Detroit has something that no one else in the world does........ (and for the one i speak to .. you know what I mean). When I came here I didnt know how bad of a state Detroit was really in. Its like this empty shell of a city that was once so great and grand. It has so much to offer but NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE HOLD OF THAT POTENTIAL!!!! They think their moment has passed them by. And for the majorty of people that now live in the city they dont care anymore, its sad really because I love Detroit so very much. Its so beautiful and chaotic yet romantic in its charm. I DONT WANT TO SEE THAT DIE! But whats done is done ... some people learn from their mistakes .... its aparent that the people of Detroit havent yet, hence the re-election. But you have to make due with what you have and hope for the best. Focus on the positive, perhaps the people of Detroit havent learned from their mistakes but kiltpatrick has. Giving him the focus and detemination its going to take to get Detorit out to the huge hole its in.
Jarodaka
According to Demographics.. Detriot is 73.1% white, 21.1% Black and the rest is mixed.... Nope.. that is correect according to the newest Census data. Remeber Detriot.. not the greater Detriot area. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That makes your quoted stats all the more baffling. Where are these (capital D) Demographics you're looking at? 'Cause that's quite a shift from 2000 where 81.6% were Black or African American persons. Maybe it's the sort of thing where voters think they Devil they know is better than the Devil they don't? It's amazing what politicians can get away with and still get elected yet again. pharoh
I missed the actual broadcast. But apparently Deminsky & Doyle were at polling places in Detroit yesterday, and were talking to people, and bringing up all the scandals around Kilpatrick. The people were nodding and saying, "yeah, yeah, that's pretty bad" and basically admitting they knew of the BS Kwame has done. But when they finished by saying, "so, who did you vote for?" they all answered "Kilpatrick". WTFE. When it comes to mayoral races, I tend to let my liberalism/Democratic leanings go by the wayside and look at who is least corrupt. Had I been a Detroit resident, I would have voted for Hendrix - easy. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I also listened to that broadcast, but that goes back to my same argument, ppl are not voting for the better person, but IMO a chimp could do a better job. Jarodaka
Ok, I just want to make sure I'm following this right: According to Demographics.. Detriot is 73.1% white, 21.1% Black and the rest is mixed.... You mean the city proper, right? Nope.. that is correect according to the newest Census data. Remeber Detriot.. not the greater Detriot area. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, NOT the Metro Detroit area, just the city itself got it. here... http://www.cityrating.com/citystats.asp?ci...etroit&state=MI <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Right, these are stats for "*Population corresponds to Metropolitan Statistical Area or Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area." So these are numbers for the Metro Detroit area, and not the D itself. Again, I'm baffled by your first quote.

Mzdeadlyspell
Honestly, I am quite disappointed in the whole election at this time. My job maybe on the line, as after the elections depending on who won, we now are going to have lay offs. And yes I work with the Mayor's family, relatives, and what not..............egawds. I hate to see good workers go, and family members stay on, who do nothing but hold a coffee cup all day and take cigerette breaks! Other then that last night I found it interesting to watch Kwame on TV without his zoot suit on , and no gigantic earring. (finally got rid of the bling bling) He seemed more mature all of a sudden. And WHOOLA, now that he won the election, I see today he had the famous zoot suit on again, and well the earring is gone...good riddence (spell?) But lets get down to business, what is he going to do about the huge unemployment problem ? Interesting he states he is going to create more jobs, etc. When he did that this past summer, and put a ad in the paper stating he had jobs for a ton of teenagers, and in actuality they only had money for about 300 kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ((((crossing my fingers my job is still there at the office tomorrow))))

EvilDivaEva
Hendrix is demanding a recount according to a press release. He has and his team have it's doubts on the results and believe it was a scam. It is going to be a monitored recount for all ballots this time. Blackmail
YES! It may be unlikely to reverse the election but at least there is a ray of hope! http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051122/ap_on_...s/detroit_mayor Seriously, would anyone put it past Kwame to rig an election? I didn't think so.
Jarodaka
This should be interesting. Does this mean I have to watch local news again? Does Detroit have the optical scanning machines or are those only in the rich, white suburban voting districts that I've lived in?
Draco1958
From what I understood from the news tonight, there are some questions about the count. Apparently some ballots went home with workers and supposedly, vote totals at some precincts don't match voter counts at those precincts. Something about the total counted votes doesn't match the total number of voters who made it to the machine. Now that could mean some people didn't vote for either mayor but since this election was being monitored by the Feds, it makes sense to ask for a recount. I voted by completing an arrow with a marker and then depositing it in some machine. I couldn't tell if the machine optically read it or just stored it.
