I didn't join DGN thinking it was a pick up site. I joined to meet new people and make new friends. If something clicked between me and someone, cool, if not, well I'm not here for that altho I wouldn't turn down a chance to date one of the lovely ladies on here. I'm just trying to increase my circle of friends and beyond that, well who knows. But I won't let someone's postings stop me from giving them a chance as far as dating goes. It would depend on how we get along in person and such. Just how I feel.

If that's the impression DGN, just the Internet in general (or both) give off, its pretty depressing. Not that I'd ever want DGN or the DGN community to be a "hook up" spot , but just by posting here you invalidate your intelligence/attractiveness and date-worthiness? That's a pretty upsetting thought thought. DGN sucks so bad that if someone posts here or meets someone here, they are now basically creeps?

Definitely not what I worked (and continue to work) to build up for the last 7 years. We've tried at least, to build a civil friendly and hopefully on average, drama-limited community in relation to the internet at large, which, being on many medium-sized board I thought we did a passable job at. Maybe not.

I've met a lot of wonderful people here and made a few friends that I hope will be around for the rest of my life. I met the love of my life at City Club through other DGNers, though I wasn't looking for anything of the sort at the time. Now, I don't want to imagine life without her. I suppose that if you go anywhere, online or IRL, expecting a negative experience, you won't be disappointed.

What I had said before, may, in fact. be null and void. People on this board are wonderful, and I don't think whether I hook up with someone from meeting them here or not, isn't really anything to talk about. If some one is awesome, than someone is awesome.......I'm still not going to bang any CC folk though. LMFAO

The Internet is a valid communication tool or facilitator of interaction no? Letters? Talking? Cell Phones? Parties? All just different types of communication right? Maybe I'm just confused about what the point is and am misinterpreting.

Their reasons may run close to why I refuse to have any sort of relationships with co-workers... keeps things from getting out of hand. There's already enough drama around, why take the trouble to add to it?

I think some people are still scarred from remembering some of the more drama-filled DGN hook-ups and break-ups, thinking "Yikes, I don't want to come across like that!"

That, and too many DGNers have already dated too many DGNers and it's quickly becoming a dating a friend's ex or an ex's friend thing, which many of us just think is inviting too much drama into our lives. On the off chance things don't work out with the current bf, the next one will not be someone I met through DGN. Now if I met him, then he joined, that would be different.

I agree. A number of people have dated each other. But, I guess that tends to happen in social circles.

None  and it will stay that way .. little me is due to be married soon lol.

Well The person that I have had sexual relations with is on DGN because I joined.. so if that counts lol then one.

And I totally agree with JaneDead on her previous post, it's not that I don't like the people on DGN, but it seems that I wouldn't be able to have a relationship with any of them or connect with them on a level to pursue intimacy.

Heh.. drama .. yeah.. *takes deep breath*

I've never had drama in my life like I've had on DGN, but then again, I've also never felt more deeply for people like I have for DGN'ers..Amongst the DGN crowd, I see the best and worst of people, and on either side of the spectrum, nothing to be ashamed, and afraid of. You guys embrace your faults, and you overcome some of the worst the world has to offer, and you derive strength from it. I respect and admire a great deal of all of you. With that much respect and admiration amongst us, how could we not want to be closer

I believe DGNers (ones who truly embrace the board, and yes even those who lurk and can't seem to bring themselves to sign up) are a rare breed of close knit people that keep getting better and more dynamic every day. Sure, we've had people go, and return, and go again. I don't know if they really know what they're looking for. When they go, I hope they can certainly find what it is they're looking for, and I hope that when they come back, they will return to a welcoming fold. I honestly cannot see my life without Troy and DGN in it. I can't believe that I didn't find DGN earlier, it would have certainly saved me from a few mistakes I've made in the past.

Do things get intense in DGNland? Yes, very much so, but that intensity is what keeps it thriving. Do people get pissed at the moderators for doing their job, yupp.. I see that more and more, even before I became a Mod, I could see some of the stuff unfolding as they did, and what the mods do to keep things in line is amazing to say the least (on both sides of the fence). Will all the people be happy all the time with the decisions the mods make? Nope, but at least maybe they'll think that they've had a fair shake at a fair outcome.

I digress..

As for relationships, I remember me telling someone that I would never be involved in someone else who was on DGN. I certainly have other revenues of people that I can pick from, but you know what's unique about DGN that I find isn't the case with other avenues of my life? The darker side. I believe that in order for me to be completely comfortable and secure in a relationship, I need to have someone who knows the darker side of my psyche, not only knows, but sees, and understands, and maybe lived it, and appreciates it. I haven't found this in other people, except people of DGN caliber, and when I say DGN caliber, it's those of us who spend enough time on here, for this place to keep us entertained.

As for the never say never mentality.. heh. I have to laugh at this one.. Yes, those words have come out of my mouth, and I know of at least TWO other people who have said the same, only later to have to eat their words.

Think for a minute about a situation...

What if you thought... OK there's only ONE person that I would even consider (breaking my NO DGNer rule) and it wasn't even an actual thought, just a statement, but you never thought in your darkest dream of dreams anything would ever come from it. IF this particular situation happened, the universe would have to open itself up (and in doing so break so many laws of physics), You're just recently out of a relationship, and say to yourself, that's it, I'm going to be single for a while, they're out of their relationship (again same instance), and THEN if this happens, the fact that they may even actually find you attractive.. blah blah meaning NOT A CHANCE IN HELL, and it DOES happens.. would you deny them because they're a DGNer? Even after denying it on it's initial presentation, do you keep denying it after it's brought to your attention time and time again?

I have to admit, to me, DGN isn't just the "intarweb" it is much much more than that. The way we care for each other, is genuine, the way we argue with each other, is like a family, we even look out for each other, and sometimes we argue and hate each other, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I know in some instances, I've seen some of you go through some really tough stuff, and you've had a place to vent, and from our deepest darkest depths, someone always seems to know or find the one thing that is just perfect to say in that instance, and say it. It truly warms my heart.

Does that mean drama won't be there? no, no.. no (no matter how much the mods fight it). We can have drama, we can have tense situations, without that, we couldn't/wouldn't care, and that's not a board I would want to be a part of.

I love how when someone says "I need a hug" there are five people at LEAST right off the bat sending intarweb hugs, and if we need one in person, there's a few people who will take time out of their busy lives, and schedules, and give an actual physical hug. That to me is speaks VOLUMES!!!!..

I guess what I'm trying to say is, we have a great group of people here, and it warms my heart to think that I am one of the people involved. My wish for DGN is that it helps people think and believe that the world isn't so completely unbearable. :grouphug:

There may be some of you who don't believe any of this, and are denying yourself, I truly feel sorry for you. Then again, sometimes I feel that if you don't love so deeply, you won't ever know what it is, and you wouldn't know what you're missing out on, but to those of us who are enlightened, I feel bad for those who aren't.

See, to me that's it. DGN is kind of like a family. Albeit, a deep-south dysfunctional incestuous family where there are crazy distant relatives you ignore, pretend not to know, and/or disown. I consider a number of people on here friends, and therefore, with the majority of the single guys on here either they are my friends, their girlfriends are my friends, their ex girlfriends are my friends, or all of the above. Plus, with the way things work here, you already end up knowing way more about the people before you even meet them than you normally would even after 10 or 12 dates. To me, that's an established level of intimacy that I'm not comfortable bringing into a relationship. I don't like to date/fool around with friends, I think it's a bad idea that usually ends up damaging a friendship somewhere along the line. Even drunkenly kissing DGNers and other friends at the club has started to feel incestuous and wrong to me, which is why I've been shying away from it more and more lately. And no that hasn't always been the case, my stance on this has been partially derived from trial and error. At least I can say I'm learning from my mistakes.

That's not to say I don't luv ya, Hunhee. :kiss Just know you too well to date you.
