I believe I will spend it alone this year. I have no family here in MI. Ive been invited to go with a friend to his parents house ..... but its kinda far and I think Im going to have to work =( You know I really do miss my family as much as I tried to avoid them when I lived half an hour away from them lol ..... Its funny how you dont really see things untill you remove yourself from the picture and get a different kind of view. SO .. what are you doing for turkey day ????

Holidays can feel so cold when you aren't really part of an intact family. I miss turkeys and the sound of football in the background, all the "eccentric" aunts, uncles and cousins you only see once a year. Everyone in my family seems to have either divorced or fragmented in some other way and all went their separate ways.

I am scheduled to work, but my kids are with their dad this holiday anyway. I am off the day after though, and I am taking my girls to Red Lobster and then shopping. They both need bigger clothes - growing like crazy.

The hubby and I will be going to my parents house, where my mom and I will get drunk while cooking dinner (annual tradition).

The hubby and I will pretend like we are still married and in love and all that (easier than answering 1,000 questions from relatives).

This year is special for me, It is the first Thanksgiving in this home as a family, also I think it will be the first year a TURKEY has ever been Cooked in this house, Lived here almost 29 years -+ and I will be cooking the fisrt turkey :grin ....my mom hated turkey..

My inlaws will be here, no other extra family, i will cook, we will eat, and i rented "Millions" and "Christmas with the Cranks" for us all to watch so i can avoid Football and random conversation i dont want to have any how.

While i am cooking and getting those last minute things done i Plan to have the kids Think about what they are thankful for, so during dinner we can listen to all the wonderful funny stuff kids are thankful for, I might have them write it down draw pictures etc..... I am trying to included them some how in the preperation so that dont annoy me, and makeing them the leaders of dinner entertainment would be right up there alley. If they end up writting drawing it would make a great momento for the grandparnets.

My mother inlaw sent me over this "wonderful" Turkey apron :blink ....I guess i am suposed to wear it but i think i might try to get Lestat in to it :devil

All the dgn'rs with out plans should try to get together and make you own Gothy Thanksgiving....... IMHO....... No need for close friends/family just a nice day cooking and having fun with people hwo have simlar intrests and potential to be a good close friend one day....Something to take your mind off those whom you miss terriably this time of year.

My daughter In-Law will be baking dead bird again, I will be bringing veg chick nuggetts for me and my man. I have a kid still wondering if she is going to stay vegan or not.

It is funny, she is not influenced by her pals to try smoking or anything like that but meat.....that is getting to her.

Fucking carnivores all of you! Ha!

I'll be having dinner with my friend and his family since I am currently staying with them if I decide to stick around.  Otherwise I would just go for a long walk since I really don't have anything to be thankful for.

You DO have somethings to be thankful for. Think about it.

Personally, I don't enjoy family gatherings. I stick out like a sore thumb, and get a million questions as to why I wear this or why I wear that. This time around, my hair is its natural brown color, so I won't hear "Why do you do that to your hair?" I'm sorry, people. I have a very busy management postion, two kids who are close to hitting puberty, and I don't even have time to pee some days. I'm too busy being a grown up to deal with such petty shit.

I do have a lot to be thankful for. My children, Wayne, my friends. The fact that my dad is still alive. The fact that Sunshine is probably giving birth next week, that my kids and their dad are getting along a bit better. These things make me feel really good.

My Thanksgiving is going to be messed up. I'm going to be going down to my Aunt's house in Allegan for a HUGE family get together on Thursday. I'm really excited because my sister will be up here from Peoria, IL for the entire weekend. We get along really well, but don't get to see each other very often. It'll be crazy, but my aunt always makes some good food. I generally don't really like getting together with anyone but my parents (and that's just because they're my parents) because they're all psycho uber-conservative Christians and we stick out like sore thumbs. I have to deal with them praying and talking about how great the war in Iraq is... Not trying to start a political debate here; just relating what it's like to go to this side of my family's during the holiday. At least Sarah's family is a bunch of psycho liberals. :devil

Then I've got to work at the office on Friday while Sarah has the day off. Then my parents and sister (who lives in Peoria, IL) will be up to our house in GR to look at it for the first time. Sarah has the day off and she gets to cook for them (lucky her).

Then Saturday I'm going down to Kzoo to celebrate my birthday with my parents and get trashed with my old friends from when I went to high school down there. Good times.
