Did anyone see the new South Park episode this week? I only saw the last 10 minutes of it last night, but it was pretty funny. I guess Tom Cruise is bent out of shape about it. I was Studing a little of the scientology religion myself for college last fall and South Park did not really go far from the truth, but they may have exagerated a little. Still really not that much. What are your views on this religion? or how about Madonna's Kabbalah religion? Is it just a celebrity thing or is it more? I am just curious to see how people feel about this. I myself do not believe in any of this, but it seams that is the thing to do in Hollywood.

I've never had any respect for anyone that beleives in Scientology... L. Ron is a sci-fi writer.... his "religion" is based off his writings... I cant believe people fall for it.

What I understand less is the "pagans" who poke fun at it... and then get all upset if someone pokes fun at them for being a pagan.

Much like you, I also did a report in college, but in mine was on Kabbalah. I do not believe in that religion what so ever. It does make you think a bit, but it is really unfounded. A good frined of mine was much like you and studied a bit of Scientology for a class and he too said that South Park really wasn't all that off from what believers of this religion think. I am gonna watch for this episode so I can enjoy it myself. If anyone knows when it will air again please let me know.

I also wonder how hard it would be to start my own religion.  Apparently not very.
The problem is not starting the Religion, thats the easy part. The hard part is finding a bunch of dumbasses to listen to your bullshit and give you money... The best strategy seems to be to try and attract stupid people and then tell them you have all the answers and then you tell them that they are very smart for listening to you (and for giving you their money). From there you get them to go out and find more stupid people and pretty soon you have a cult. Once your cult grows to be fairly large, it becomes a religion no matter how rediculous it is (at least here in the usa)

I'll always remember what my dad said about people like that... "Too much money, not enough brains..." Not that I'm one to talk. :innocent

As I stated in this thread

well almost every belief, there are a few that I think are total bunk

Scientology is one of the few beliefs that I think is total bunk. (One of the others being the First Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Sorry if you're a Mormon but I've got a LOT of problems with some of their beliefs.)

It is true though that we don't know. It could be true. IMO though, "FREE XENU!" :laughing

There is a South Park episode where they point out the absurdity of the Mormons. It, too, was very good.

I love south park the way they blast this so called religion and how absurd it is and the episode about the mormons was also very funny, they have also poked fun at a number of other religions....all in all I think South Park KICKS ASS

Oh and Tom Cruise needing to come out of the closet was CLASSIC

Hmmm, I don't think they've blasted Pagans directly. They've done episodes on Mormons, Scientologists, Catholics (heh, another classic), and mocked 'natural' medicine -- "ooh, Cherokee hair tampons!" Then, of course, there's Cartman's incessant lambasting of Kyle's Jewishness. Disembodied head of Moses was sweet, too.

So nothing directed at Pagans ... directly, but South Park tends to focus on recent events.
