I just follow the directions on the back of the Libby's pumpkin can, always comes out great.

I'm making some pies for Thanksgiving, Apple and Pumpkin.

And I know that we have a lot of food-oriented folks here, I was wondering what recipies you guys may have that you've had turn out well.

Way back in the day, back in LA, I used to work the Compton/Lynwood area quite frequently as an electrician.

I had a ponytail down to my ass, I looked like a biker, and stood out like a sore thumb.

But overall - the people were cool to me. I had a partner that worked with me for a while named Jason - he was a big black Piru Blood from Hawthorne, a very funny guy and we got to be great freinds. He would take me to all the inner city eateries that only the black folks go to to eat, Like Mo' Meaty Meat Burgers and Roscoes Chicken and Waffles.

I got stared at all the time. And I discovered my love for soul food there in the hood, that food was awesome!!!! .

One of my discoveries, was Honey bean pie.

yep.

Bean Pie.

Bean.

Pie.

Pie made out of beans. It was alot like sweet potatoe or pumpkin pie, very light and sweet and mellow, I loved it, wish I had some right now. Loved it so much that every thanksgiving I'd drive back into the Hood and be the ONLY white boy standing in line in Compton buying Bean Pie.

Anybody heard of it here in Detroit? Tell me where and I'll go get it.

Steven

~Holli's Killah Apple Pie~

oven: 425/350

Crust:

Use a standard dough recipe such as the Joy of Cooking's recipe for flakey pastry. Use 1/2 chilled shortening and 1/2 chilled butter cut into the flour with a pasty blender. Divide dough in 1/2 and flatten between 2 sheets of waxed paper so it doesn't stick when you roll it out.

Filling:

8 large Golden Delicious apples peeled, cored and sliced.

1/3 C. sugar

1 T. fresh lemon juice

3 T. cold butter

2 T. flour

1 t. cinnamon

Mix apples with cinnamon, sugar and flour and set aside while you roll out the crust. Fill crust with apples and arrange them around as tight as you can to avoid gaps after baking. Dot the top of the fruit with bits of the butter and cover with the top crust. Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle heavily with cinnamon-sugar.

Bake 30 minutes at 425 f. and then turn down the heat and bake for an hour at 350.

Yum!!!!

Here's my family recipe for pumpkin pie:

1. head north on woodward

2. turn left into the kroger plaze on 13 mile and woodward.

3. purchase pumpkin pie on table display at the front of the store.

4. sit in your car and eat the whole pie.

5. go to computer and log onto DGN

6. complain about how you can't lose weight.
