Homicidalheathen
My husband is German (from Germany) and he had to play polkas on his accordian when he was a kid. In a bow tie and suit. I swear his parents were TRYING to get his poor wee ass kicked. When I was a kid, I would come home from school to hear my mother listening to a radio station that actually played Polish Polkas at that time of day. And I spent my childhood attending Polish festival after Polish festival, and masses at Polish churches, etc. So that music just brings out a very ingrained feeling of happiness that no other music can. My turntable took a dump upon moving. And all that music is on vinyl, so I can't listen to it right now. And it's driving me nuts. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Fierce Critter
I too love Who Stoel the Keishka and have eaten Keishka. Polka is a blast when there are a bunch of peopel that know how to polka. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Was it prepared properly? Taken out of the casing, fried in a pan and mixed with ketchup? Nummy nummy. *********Caution: Critter Anecdote ahead*********** We were at a company Christmas party when I worked for AAA Michigan. Someone played a joke on one of my fellow co-workers, a black guy, and played a song "just for him". Ended up being a polka, I forget which one. Everybody was goading him to dance, so I grabbed him and swung him onto the dancefloor and we actually managed to dance a damned good minute or two, to much applause. That was until I realized I had never really LEARNED how to polka and we quit. I guess it was in the blood, but as soon as I started thinking about it, I lost it. gothicmom
That's a pretty cool story. The neighborhood that I live in is mostly Polish (so is my wife's family), so I can appreciate the culture, but I didn't really grow up in it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> *points finger* I know where you live!!!!!!!! Brenda Starrr
Well, it's more of what you think OTHER people would think about your music. Even if you don't care about about their opinion, you surely can think of something that you wouldn't normally be showing off to the rest of the group. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They've pretty much been listed here! :grin

n0Mad
To me, if I like it, it's not lame. I love so many different forms of music. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I second that. I have Roger Whittaker's triple CD set and sing along to it all the time. Some people might concider him lame but I grew up listening to him, the Kingston Trio, Helen Ready, and more during car trips with my family as a kid. They always stir up nostalgia and I think they're all damn good musicians. Hell, NOBODY can whistle like Whittaker.
n0Mad
Various broadway soundtracks, including A Chorus Line, Godspell, etc. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My little sister and I sing along to Broadway soundtracks all the time. Then again, we both went to college for theatre, though she got her degree in it and I got mine in something else. That reminds me of a story ... I was performing in an improv comedy show at the nightclub I worked at last year. My boss and I are doing a scene together and he said something about my truck so I spontaneously break out into song- "I love my truck It gets me where I want to go I love my truck It's not real fast, it's kinda slow I love my truck ..." All the actors stop and just stare at me. I said, "It's from Vegi Tales. 'I Love My Duck'. I just changed it to truck and ..." My boss gives me a strange look and scoffs, "Vegi Tales?" I continued, "Yeah, I watch it with my little sister." Boss: "Oh, okay. That's cool I guess. How old is your little sister?" I start to look away and mutter out, "Uh ... twenty one." *************** So, there you go. It's not really music related, but it's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine that I feel reluctant admitting to anybody, especially a group of goths. I really like "Vegi Tales".
