things we like/dislike about online communities...

Recommended Posts

I like this board more than michigan pagans, michigan wise ones....earthmagick, all the other pagan boards. Would rather bounce My spritual views off of the minds of many intellegent but well diverse peoples than a bunch of people who already think like me and think they have all the answers.

I like this board and other local ones the most because I have a chance of actually meeting some of you, the dj song lists.......cannot beat that.

The music discussion and technology help I get on here is great.....

Just don't like the annonymous posts that are ment to be rude or intimidating.

Or the drama. I don't like it when people bring there personal stuff to the board and get everyone else caught up in it.....I won't refer this board to anyone ever again that is anything more than just a total platonic freind thus...sorry.

Guest Game of Chance

out of curiosity, what would be something (traits) that would make you want to recommend a site to a friend?

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm gonna go with the "Troyness" mentioned by FC.

Also, there are a few members of this site whose posts I enjoy reading.

Here's my 2 cents: I like the feeling of being at home or just comfortable to talk about what you want and to be playful...i agree with phee on this issue. i get to see and read about a lot of different views and get all kinds of information whether it be good or bad, its all good. People get to view thier opinions whether you agree or not, its just a good thing.

I have checked out a couple of on line communities and i feel DGN feels like home to me, people are just as freaky as me and we for the most part are respectable towards each other and I really like that. Its all about fun and if I can learn stuff along the way great, oh and i have met bunches of really cool peeps.

I have a tendency to be very silly at times so i post that way, i am sorry if people don't like that but it was mention by CRANK that life is to short to be misrable all the time. So just laugh cause noone gets out of here alive.

Dislikes I really hate when people hate on each other and are mean and rude to each other. I feel if you don't like what some one is posting move to another post.

More to come when I think of more witty stuff to say :nut

I like it when an online community is a springboard to making offline friends.

I like having a centralish location to post and hear about new club nights or concerts and to find out who is going where.

I like being able to keep up with friends who are far away or have family obligations that prevent them from hanging out a lot.

I like having an excuse to break the ice with new people. “I’m so and so from DGN” is a great excuse to say Hi to someone new without sounding creepy.

I like having a group of kind people who indulge my occasional need to be an attention whore; I gotta say it’s satisfying when I post some whiny emo crap about my bad day and instantly people sympathize. Lifts me right up.

I dislike it when people feed drama while pretending to be trying to stop it.

I also dislike anonymous bs/trolling that 99.9% of everyone else seems to hate.

Some little things annoy me, but when things annoy me I tend to scroll past them and not waste energy on them. So it’s not really important.

You may never know if someone on the message board might end up wanting to contribute to your magazine or to an anthology project, it is a great place to pitch a project when you want to get it off the ground too. I got a lot of anthology authors via a few message boards I've been active with and from a mailing list or two. Now I am trying to get another anthology going in time for the convention that I do every year now. That's how I knew about the contest anthologies I write for from time to time.
