Anyone know of a study that involves the subject's personal tastes? As in...the brain function that determines why people like or dislike something. Also, any correlation to a genetic function?

I'd really like to read about that. Any ideas?

Cool topic. Have you googled it yet, or are you looking for some guidance on what specifically to look for? I'm fairly fascinated by this sort of stuff too... Please share what you find.

I know nothing about that, but you may find a study into what NLP calls "meta programs" to be interesting.

Yes, I'm quite familiar with NLP and meta progamming. Its really more a specific study that I was looking for.

Strange but true occurrence:

I love red meat.

I love it bloody rare.

I love spicy Mexican food.

Burn my butt spicy. Reminds me of Grandma's cooking.

The (white) girl I gave my kidney to - she hated spicy food, thought mexican food was Taco Bell, and was freaked out by rare meat, let alone eat much red meat in general.

A couple of months after the transplant - she started going to hole in the wall mexican joints, buying and eating rare steak constantly, and upping the spice content of her cooking.

She also got pretty bossy and demanding for a while and startd acting a wee bit loopy - the Doctor told her that was because of all of the male hormones inside the transplant. That went away - but her eating habits stayed the same - they are my eating habits.

Interesting about the transplants..... it's like sharing a part of yourself in a more intimate way.  I worked with a girl who was a Jehova's Witness and they are not allowed to have transplants or even blood transfusions, it's considered a big sin to them.

your right. I came from a JW family. My father practically disowned me for having the surgery, to this day we struggle with one another....

about the transplant. the soul is housed in the flesh. when food is consumed so is the spirit ( eat the body of christ on sunday). when you give someone a peice of your self you really give a peice of yourself.

ever see that movie ravonous about canabals and the legend of wvendigo.

when a man eats the flesh of another he come to be hungry for it. and he comes to have great power but never will he overcome his hunger. it is the soul consummed.

sorry off topic. it's not psych more lore. but your tastes i believe are some what regional to where you live and were you come from. of course this is difficult to understand as so many different people have so much to chose from. i often studied taste aversions and how they developed. my grandfather was on a ship in they navy and had nothing to eat but pineapples for months and refused to even look at them for the rest of his life. once my dad made rice with tommatto sauce and it was old and had mealworms in it and now i can not bring myself to eat rice as the texture of it induces a sickness like the clockwork orange. frogs wont eat bee's either. taste aversians do not seem to carry on from person to person. if the frog never got stung by a bee it would try to eat it even though the parent frog knew better. tastes change over time this is the regional aspect of it (or enviromental if you prefer). i know this mexican who loves ice cream couse it's not available in mexico very redily. so every day he eats ice cream. you might so thats not taste developed by enviromental conditions but how else would you explain it.

the taste of root bear is the anser to the riddle of our existence. a&w rootbear is good.

I have seen corelational studies about genotype and personality disorders or studies on genotype (as expressed in physical traits) and probable likeability...but no studies based on chemical biology alone. *would be interesting*

I would suggest checking med/psych journals, periodicals and recent publications through UofM or MSU library online~

interesting ideas here....

I've been taught and have learned to accept that the Soul equates to your Mind, Will, and Emotions. But the spirt is a transplanted thing, from God into you.

I recall an episode of 20/20 where they followed twins separated at birth years later and found they had similar likes, career choices, many of the same quirks.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Interesting...I think that is a combination of genetic and learned traits...still haven't taken the time to do a search for a study.

Just wanted to get some feedback.

Twin studies are the basis for a lot of the genetics versus environment studies. But some of them were later found out to be corrupted because when the twins were brought to the research institutions, some would contact each other ahead of time and work out a story.

The place to search for medical science papers is PubMed. It can be difficult to find what you're looking for though.

and along that same logic we are all creaturesof god gods children.for something to exist something else must be destroyed. from gods creatures into you. the life in everything is god like final fantasy 7 with the life stream. so to consume is to live in gods graces. why we give thanks and pray at dinner say grace.

( i'm really not to religious a person) so try not to think i beilive this so firmly
