USDA to allow implanted tracking devices in people

Recommended Posts

This has been going on for some time. While I'll hold out with my last breath to not let it happen to me if I can avoid it, if we think about it, these chips have been around in some form or another for quite a while. There's the whole On Star deal (which, I'll never have if I can avoid it; I don't want someone having that much control over my location and vehicle), in micro-chipping pets in case they get lost or stolen . . . . . There are many things that would fit this.

Very true. I rid of my Nextel cell phone just over a year and switched to another company because I did not like the GPS feature that many of thier phones have. You can not turn this feature off, so someone always knows where you are and where you are going. I did not like this idea becasue I felt it violated my own personal privacy.

OK this is scary, but it is comming.

First, Ginevra, the chips are so small they can give them to you in a flu shot without you even knowing it.

Second, Wounds Within, ALL cellphones have GPS these days, ALL OF THEM. Weather or not you can access it is another story. This is usefull for 911 emergency calls and yes, tracking you down. The only way around that is to use one that preedates them putting in that feature. Sure you can "shut it off" on some of them but that just dissables your own access to it, not theres. Like I said it's for 911 and "your safety"

Actually.... I don't believe they use GPS.  I thought the tracking was done through triangulation, etc. between cell towers.

Thats how they used to do it. GPS is accureat to within 3 meters and easier than that whole triangulation business (though I'm sure that still works for older phones).

On this Scary Guy is right. All cell phones have a GPS chip in them. Have had them for some time. The chip is only active during a call though or in the case of GPS "Enabled" phones, when you are accessing the GPS system.

Hmmm.. I need to keep up better. I didn't think they'd miniturized it that far already.

Yep. I actually have a setting in my cell phone to enable and disable the GPS chip.

Which reminds me, I need to make an appointment for the truck to get it's GPS installed so I can track it online like I always could with the old ones ....

Just so you know... That setting is a ruse. You cant turn the GPS off.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

... not quite sure that's completely correct. Someone turned theirs off once, in an emergency I called the provider and tried to have them tracked (its a very long story) but they couldn't, even though I had full access to the account, the GPS was disabled (done purposely). They could tell approximately by where the last calls were placed, but still was too broad.

Remembering my vehicle (in other person's possession) was equipped with OnStar, I called them and tracked that way.

I know that this holds to be true. I just feel better when I not have to look at it every time I use my phone, but you are very much correct.

It could be a good thing for some though. Dimentia.....senility.....brain injury patients. I had amnesia once for a day......I knew what I was doing but couldn't remember I had done it. It was scary. I was not at home when It happened and I am lucky I got help.

Also, I get hypoglycemic at times and get real strange. I don't know what I am doing, get irritated and go numb then pass out.

I really don't want Big Brother knowing my every move though. It would have to be used on people under extreme circumstances and with their knowledge or it would not be right.

I had a neighbor whose mom got out once, (like a child sorta) and she wandered around the neighborhood for hours before anyone found her and took her home.

She had some sort of severe brain degeneration that comes with age.

If I'm driving along the long empty road to nowhere and have an accident, I'd like emergency workers to be able to find me. And with my lousy sense of direction and how often I get lost, chances are good I won't know my exact location. So really I don't mind the GPS in my phone. What the hell do I care if big brother knows where I am? If he's really that interested (which I doubt) he is welcome to know. I have enough to worry about.

the truth is that if he (Big Brother) is really interested......he'll find you. Simple as that.
