I got stuff for sale, not on eBay

Recommended Posts

Ordinarily, I don't use DGN to hock my wares. But I've got some stuff for sale via some Yahoo "for sale or trade" groups and sales keep falling through, 'cause everybody on there is trying to sell their own stuff for the same reason as us - to raise $ for Christmas spending.

I've got stuff posted for sale HERE and HERE. For the most part, everything on those pages is still available. Not sure if I updated to remove the vacuums, however, which both sold.

Items include a NordicTrack bike stroller/trailer, a vintage pipe/tobacco cabinet/humidor, a snowblower, a small TV, a Christmas Tree, etc. This is all stuff I'm not selling on eBay due to size for the most part.

I can be flexible some on prices. And can deliver for gas money.

If interested, respond here or PM me. Thanks!

FC, what are some of the stats of the snowblower? Do you know what horse it is? Is it in running condition/has Jon looked at it? Is it a pull start or an electric start or both?

The reason I'm asking is because there was a small one at Lowe's for $130, about a 3 hp. After the snow hit, I went back to get it and they didn't have anything smaller than about an 8hp and it was well over $300. Home Depot was about the same way. They had a 5hp for $300+ but that's well out of my price range. So, I'm in the market for one but I don't want to sell my soul to buy one.

Oops. I forget that I had the details posted only in the e-mails I sent out about the items, with just prices on the picture sites. Sorry.

It's a Toro CCR Powerlite E. The same model can be found selling on eBay for anywhere from about $190 to $270, depending on condition & whether it's brand-new or used (search toro powerlite and you'll see what I mean).

Toro has been selling the same model for years. Right as I type this, Jon is working on my dad's, which is the same exact model and which, I believe, he's had since I lived with him 8 years ago. These things are really hard to kill (looks like Dad needs a new primer ball). Everybody on my dad's block has the same model, it's like some kind of Retiree Toro club or something. =)

It's a 3hp. Both pull and electric start, but the electric start is on the fritz. Pull start starts on the very first pull, however, which is important to someone like me who doesn't have a lot of upper body strength.

I got it out of the basement Friday to give it a go on the snow that had fallen overnight. It seemed to be pushing the snow ahead of it rather than shooting it up and out the shoot, so I was a bit concerned. But then I noticed my neighbor using a similar blower and he was having the same trouble. As I drove around that day, I tried to see what other people's blowers were doing. Depending on size & model, some were half-heartedly spitting out the snow as well, so I think it was a "heavy snow" situation.

Jon's going to see if he can get my dad's running for him today, and then do some snow and see how it performs in comparison to the one we have for sale. If he does, I'll report back here with the results.

We were asking $200, but are willing to go down to $175 for sure. We'd want to give it some time before going any lower.

By the way, I ran the "won't shoot the snow" thing by my dad, and he said that on heavy snow, it's better to do it more than once - as in do it once it's snowed for a couple inches, then do it again after another couple inches, etc., rather than waiting for it to finish snowing and then try to do 8". He also said it can help to overlap your passes if you do end up waiting.

When I was trying to do our snow with it, I must say it did clear the pavement, just required some touch-ups at the end of a pass where it sorta bulldozed rather than projected the snow.

Ah - as I type this, I hear Jon has gotten my Dad's running. So a report should come soon on what's up with the "shooting out the chute" situation.

Okey dokey. Dad's is working great now, and pitching that snow plenty far.

The deal with ours: the blades are worn down to nubs which we couldn't tell before comparing it with Dad's.

The good news: Already found a set of brand-new replacements, cost of which will be $30.00 plus tax. That was the only place open today - I'm gonna call a half dozen other places tomorrow and see if I can get them even cheaper.

With replacement blades, the asking price on the blower will be $175 firm.
