Dubh Aingeal
Disney has hired screenwriters Brian Klugman and Lee Sternthal to fashion a remake of Tron, the 1982 film about a computer programmer who gets sucked into the parallel world of a computer program, Variety reported. The original movie, written and directed by Steven Lisberger, was considered ahead of its time. Klugman and Sterntha (Warrior) feel that the world has caught up with Lisberger's original concept, making it ripe for redo, the trade paper reported. Sternthal told the trade paper that the new conceit is that the computer programmer gets trapped in a cyberworld, so that the film can utilize the Internet. Troy Spiral (13)
Now they just need Kubrick to come back from the grave to direct it. (or he could do another from-the-crypt direction job with puppet strings via speilberg) Promising. Wont get my hopes up though, hollywood has let me down to many times. Black Sunday
When I first read this threat tiel i thought "hey that's great" but then i thought, maybe Tron is one that should probably be left alone?
phee
I must agree with Black Sunday. Although they are doing OK with the Battlestar Galactica remake thus far.
Dubh Aingeal
IMO Tron is a classic movie as it is. Yeah special effects and stuff might be dated by todays standards, but over all I have always liked the movie, and bought the dvd release of it when it became available. Typically when Hollywood remakes a movie it tends to come out pretty crappy compared to the original. There are of course exceptions (The Thing being one that comes to mind) of remakes that are better than the first (All though I still like the original a little better but I have a thing for the old Sci-Fi/Horror/Suspense movies of old). Although they are doing OK with the Battlestar Galactica remake thus far. My opinions are quite reserved until I see a couple of the episodes, I was quite let down by the miniseries and their choices on gender changes of the characters. Scary Guy
I must agree with Black Sunday. Although they are doing OK with the Battlestar Galactica remake thus far. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No way, it's blasphame, and I'm also willing to bet that in the new Tron they'll replace one or all of the characters with kids. They had to pick a Disney movie I actually like :(
Fierce Critter
I share your trepidation. I was a pre-teen when that movie came out, and was totally enraptured. But that was also the first I'd ever been consciously struck by the term "before it's time". I didn't understand that - thought, "if something's good, it's good - does this scare people for some reason?" I haven't seen the DVD yet, but it's one of the few films I actually would like to own in a collection (I'm not much on seeing films over and over and over). Heh. I even had the 2 Intellivision games based on it. One really sucked, but I didn't care - I loved it 'cause it was TRON. The arcade game was pretty good as I remember. Loved playing the cycle game. No, this is probably going to be a bad thing. To even start talking about changing the plot line (what's wrong with the main plot still being someone zapped into "a" computer system? It has to be the 'net? Are they going to have the character being bombarded by "Spams" - little people that run up to him/her screaming, "WE CAN IMPROVE YOUR PENIS SIZE AND SEX LIFE!!!" or have a male character end up in the middle of some porn site - and liking it, wanting to stay??? Oi vey.

No younger generation would understand why they didn't just escape out onto the net. Then they could have gone any where to be safe. I also wouldn't be surprised if the main char gets sucked in by some VR based application. Something similar to the bad Lawnmower Man 2 movie.... Marblez
Very interesting thoughts Critter, the Spam and porn site ideas are hilarious. And no, that would be a very bad thing.
