Crazed Vampyress
pretty much i like the songs i like and i dont care much for the rest. hes done a few cool things that i thought were entertaining (for example i like a couple of his videos and ive seen interviews with him that didnt suck) but i dont feel like hes so special that i have to watch everything he does or parade around yellling my adoration. hes just on par with the majority of other bands i like of all genres, i like what i like, the rest i could do without. Slept with ghost
okay this may not make sense but i think that somewhere along the line marilyn manson forgot who was and what he started out to do when the band began and he alowed himself to become to much of an image one that not even he can control any longer and about his cover of personal jesus i think the only reason he covered it was because he is marilyn manson and he always has to have something to say about religion
Steven
Personally I think he's a bit of a joke and has run out of gas, and thought he would even back in the day when he was rubbing his ass crack on everybody: that's a sign thet the talent pool is thinning...... My concern with Manson is not in his message per se (although I dont agree with his message and Critter exemplified it perfectly) but that he readily recognizes the ease with wich he might enthrall minions of youth who need a voice. He basically just walked up and said "Hey there Kids!!! Fuck shit piss dick asscrack motherfucker Jesus!!!" And they bought into it, like he was saying something deep and moving. So perhaps I'm being harsh....becaue now that I htink about it - the guy knows how to recognize and create a market, so yes there is talent there. As for his music, theres a couple of tunes that are so so. His voice is allright - but its heavily processed and I'm always suspicious of a singer who needs his vocals to be real wet in the mix - that's just basic fakery if you ask me - either you can sing or you cant jack. Thats what I hate about technology - once a long time ago bands and singers had to have chops. Now we just tats, peircings, blasphemy and pro tools. Only these idiots want me to beleive that theyre bad asses. Their a joke to me. But they are Gods to the kiddies aint they??? As for Cooper, gotta give credit where its due. I liked HH's observations regarding Zappa. But for those of us who are thinking of Alice Cooper in the MTV era and beyond - that's not really the real alice cooper, the one who influenced so many bands. In the early days of the "Alice Cooper Band" he had amazing musicians in his band, especially his guitar players. They wrote great shit with great theartical delivery to back up the vocals and set the scenes. I think it was way more thought out than people give him credit for. bav
and about his cover of personal jesus i think the only reason he covered it was because he is marilyn manson and he always has to have something to say about religion <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And I thought it was because he has limited creativity, so needs to do covers to make up for it. The man is a cover-whore.
sass_in_the_pants
So, my seventeen year old cousin is out of school now for winter break. So, we're talking last night and I started singing "School's out for summer. School's out forever," and she says "Who sings that?" and I say "Alice Cooper!" and she says "Who's she? I've never even heard of her," Clearly. I'm not a fan of Mr. Manson. He's all like "Look at me! I'm a freak! Look at my goofy eyes - they are two DIFFERENT colors! And look at my skin - isn't it PASTY?! Blah!" And then he whips out his shock cock, and I'm supposed to find this deep? Is this supposed to resonate within my soul? Cuz let me tell you, I do have this woozy feeling in my stomach after I see his little dog and pony show, but I'm pretty sure that's something BESIDES my soul moving. Like lunch. Blech. ManicQueen
Well, I have to say that Manson is still my favorite artist. I've been a huge fan from the day he got started and I am still one today... that will never change. I love his music, the lyrics, his "style" or lack of, his creativity and his openess and opinions. I think people try to "read" him too much and take everything he says or sings about literally. That's retarded and pointless. It's all for entertainment, everything. As it is with any other band. ENTERTAINMENT. I got to hang out with the band a few years ago on their tour bus. Manson was a very polite guy, although it could of been the drugs.. regardless, he wasn't crude at all. And as for how people think he's all against "God" or "Jesus", I don't think that's so. I think everyone's in for a big surprise one of these days. But that's just my little opinion =) I like him. Morbid Side
People love to hate him because of his shock-rock antics which has been way over done IMO. Cooper did it, then Ozzy copyed it, ran with it and took it to another level. But you can't dismiss the fact that he makes more money then pretty much all of us put together. And when he does dreaded renditions of cover songs that once were considered golden now turned them to crap makes me think he is running out of good material. Neverthless, I'm not going to bash him. I don't know the guy nor will I probably never have the oppurtunity to meet him but it seems like he thrives off people buying his records when in reality he says himself not to buy his records if you think the music is over the top. I can sleep at night knowing Manson rubs his genitals on a bald security guys head. He's ok in my book.

Destroit
He makes goth people look shitty altogether, especially after the whole columbine thing. It's not fair since he's not even goth at all, but the general population puts him in that category. Musically? Meh he ran out of new shit 3 albums ago, and he keeps sampling from his own music hoping that nobody will notice. Disposable Teens for instance has the exact basic beat and loops as The Beautiful People. Trust me, next time you'll hear them, it's the same exact song. Not much of a musical genius in my opinion, and I hear he's not that great of a guy in real life either .
Head Wreck
agreed on loss of stream. rob zombie seems to be doing the similar too. amount of old white zombie stuff thats been recycled on his albums is just plain infurating. same with manson. his "greatest hits" collection is in the juke at my local pub. it seems to get put on by the nirvana agegroup mostly. it gets as much play as my sonata arctica album i put in the juke otherwise, IE only played by one or two people otherwise
Miranda
The problem I have with Marilyn Manson is that he isn't very creative. Sure, he has a fan base, so did GG Allin... doesn't make him talented. MM doesn't have one original thought. He let his ego get the best of him a long while ago. He made his money, probably pissed most it away by now. I feel his time is done. You don't see him on every magazine like in the past, he put in a good run, I will give him that.
