Stores I Don't Shop at

There are too many places we "don't" shop to mention.

Jon gets a vast majority of his clothes from yard sales & thrift shops. He has a huge wardrobe of Abercrombie & Fitch shirts of all kinds, but he'd never shop in their stores because the shirts he gets for $2.00 a piece are $20-$80 brand-new. Say what you will about the oh-so "mainstream" nature of the brand, the quality of the clothing is definitely high.

Come to think of it, Jon wears much more expensive brands than I do. Mostly because he's a size that's very easy to find in used men's clothing. And we yard sale in neighborhoods where people buy expensive brands and then don't seem to wear the same article of clothing more than 3 times. So he wears Levi's, Calvin Klein, Carhartt, Abercrombie, you name it. He even had an Armani shirt we got from a thrift store for $2.00.

I shop wherever I can find plus sizes. I don't often find good tops at thrift stores, but I get 90% of my skirts from them. Stretch skirts in smaller sizes still fit and look fine with a longer top/tunic over the waist area.

I don't shop at a lot of stores simply because I can't afford to. I used to like Lane Bryant, and still have clothes I bought there well over 10 years ago. But their style has changed, and their prices skyrocketed. If it's not on clearance, I can't buy it there.

I tend not to shop at J.C. Penney, 'cause their plus sizes are mostly polyester crap even my mother wouldn't be caught dead in.

I used to feel that way about Sears, but they've added a Jr. Plus dept that has some good selections.

I cant say I exclude any store, there are stores i defiantly try not to go into, Walmart being one of them, but i have to say i am guilty of spending $ there recently even, my youngest son needed a new pair of boots and a new pair of tennies all at once in this fine holiday season ( his older ones even though they fit are rubbing a huge raw spot on his ankle and his tennies have a huge hole in the toe :blink ) and i got both pairs for less then $25 in his correct size, that he likes ohh spiderman :grin When ya have to balance so many conflicting issues when trying to buy something on a small budget ya hve to buy where you can get it cheap.

I try not to exclude any place as i then feel like i am limiting my self to something wonderfully unkown, i have gotten great gothy stuff at sears, dots, meijer, thrift stores, Walgreens, yard sales etc..... Mostly i am limited to what i can afford so any exclusions made by me come from the sticker price.

I have been trying to teach my kids (mainly my oldest cause we are poor and i here about hot topic more then i care too) that cloths to fit your own personal style can come from any store, it may be a mainstream type store with a "mainstream" type shirt but paired with the right accesories it is totally goth, you dont have to stick to the Hot Topics to get what you feel comfertable in, you can get it anyplace ya just have to look and use your imagination. The sales racks are allways loaded with great gothy stuff too casue the mainsteam hates it, the store cant sell it, so we get the best of it at the right price :grin

I can almost always find something to wear in any store. I thought I would hate the GAP but once when I was forced to go in there I found the coolest touchy pants that I just had to own. It's still not my choice of store to shop at, but I wont exclude it just because they don't sell "my style" of clothing, there may be something cool in there lost on some back shelf that no one else looks twice at.
