Guest Game of Chance
I know a lot of you like EBM, but I'm not asking about that. I'm also not asking about punk rock or hair metal. Simply goth/industrial. Please don't post that you like VNV Nation or Manson and therefore you like goth music. Just curious...
Wounds Within
I will have to agree with you on this. Cradle Of Filth is another band that many people believe are goth or like goth music due to their very enjoyment of this band. I enjoy COF as much as the next dude, but I have long since brached out since I was 17 and not even recall the last time I tuned into one of COF's songs. MarsDustDoug
yes... i started on this stuff when i was about 12ish (will be 25 in march). Skinny puppy, KMFDM, alien sex fiend, coil, genitorturers, kidney thieves, ptp, acid horse, clock dva, sister machine gun, Prick, PWEI (though they chanegd their sound so much) die warzau... this could go on forever how about some bella morte, this mortal coil, black tape for a blue girl, most of the cleopatra cataloge. all great stuff Yes, ebm is much more popular but there are still a large mjority that wont forget the roots. I do like ebm, but will take anything on that little name-drop list up there over it

When I was younger I used to make fun of PWEI and Prick because they weren't as hardcore as say...Skinny Puppy. Now I'll take them over some (though not all) of those EBM bands anyday. Guest Game of Chance
how about some bella morte, this mortal coil, black tape for a blue girl, most of the cleopatra cataloge. all great stuff <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Remember when other than some 4AD, Nettwerk and WaxTrax! stuff (they were not exclusively goth labels) there were really only 2 major independent labels, Cleopatra (which me and my friends referred to as dirty goth aka the stuff I liked better) and Projekt (clean goth)? MarsDustDoug
projekt always had great compilations too. how I found most of the stuff i listened to back then.. i mena when yer liek 13 you cant really go anywhere to hear the music.. less its your friends older "creepy" brother It took me about 5 years total but I have the entire PWEI album collection on cd. only one burned. I even got some vinyl. I just love how they progressed and changed their sound through the years.
Fierce Critter
I have never liked industrial. As for goth, I guess I just am not into anything hardcore. I was never into Bauhaus (were they REALLY goth?), Foetus, any of that. I just wasn't exposed to it. I really couldn't name any "true" goth bands, I don't think. What I started on was what I personally consider "pop goth". The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Siouxsie, etc. I like to hear it, but I can't dance to it. Therefore, I prefer EBM/synthpop at the club. Head Wreck
siouxsie the cure erm... goth chicks are hot, hur hur hur.... i only see two genres of music, good music, shite music. i am more of a metalhead anyhow, that loves his rockabilly. the cramps got me into here, and hey, the women dress purdy too. i cant help being male

kellygrrrrrl
I like "Goth" Music.... But I like Skinny Puppy NIN Type-o Ministry Fear Factory (older) Zombie among many others.....but to name a few These all classify as hard/core/gothy madness to me..... odims_sphere
I have to blame Phee, befor I met him I was well on my way to mullets and budweiser. In high school he introduced me to the Skinny Puppys, the Frontline Assemblys, The Front 242s and I have never looked back. Never really liked the "goth" side though, it always seemed to whiny to me. phee
Thank you Odim.... and for blaming please see the Phuck Stick Thread... Goth Music eh... The Banshees Switchblade Symphony Cocteau Twins Love Spirals Downward SlowDive Miranda Sex Garden Sky Cries Mary Other than that.... It seems to me that a lot of the "Goth" music out there just doesn't seem to have the amount of effort that I would see as necessary for me to like it.... kinda like folk music I guess.... I dunno... It seems like "Goth Music" is more about fasion, and less about the actual music, which kind of can kill any genre for me... and yes I agree with HW about goth girls BTW. I own all of the Foetus albums and most of the Coil albums. I thoroughly enjoy the Hellraiser Themes. I also like the Musick to Play in the Dark series. All are very spooky. HipsterDufus
Obviously, you've never seen them live. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That is true. I bought the Gotham CD awhile back and every time I try to listen to it, I just get so bored. It seems so minimalist. I'm sure there's reasons why scores of people like them. I just never caught the hang of their music.
Fierce Critter
My situation is basically one of non-exposure. What I've heard, I've liked. But I've heard precious little "actual" goth. As far as Bauhaus, all I know of them is "Bela Lugosi's Dead", "No New Tale to Tell" and "So Alive". I think I've listened to one or two of their albums several times over, but can't recall much. Bela is definitely "Goth" to me. But the rest of what I've heard by them - I'd be hard-pressed to call it goth. They seem to have a variety of sounds. Especially considering that "No New Tale to Tell" and "So Alive" are both by Love and Rockets. 3 of the 4 members, but totally different band with a very different style.
