From a couple of other threads "Gun Contorl"

Recommended Posts

I'm arguing that I don't care what its used for...people should be free to choose, until they fuck up.  And if we blow up the world, so be it.  Another species will come in our place.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

O.k., here's one for the Darwinists amongst us. :wink How about the advancement of stronger mentality over weaker? The stronger being those who can see that "guns kill people" and "some people are stupid and use guns for bad things" so "we stronger mental people need to control the stupid people by making laws so they can't hurt themselves - or us".

Hm?

Or maybe it's stronger EMOTIONAL capacity? Why does "survival of the fittest" have to mean just physically or whomever can find a job the fastest? Maybe evolution is leading us towards more strength emotionally, and therefore, the stronger amongst us want to make sure we don't have to suffer the emotional loss of people killed by guns.

Stream of consciousness. Forgive me.

There was a period BETWEEN the regular carrying of swords & the proliferation of guns of today. Yes, people still killed each other. But it wasn't as easy. Having to either use your own fists or draw a knife gave one much, much more time for thought before action.

Really? I must have missed that period in history when I was studying the evolution of weapons. I really like the swords with pistols built into them. Did you know the Navy's first side arm was a signle shot pistol built into the glove worn on your sword arm?

And FC.. we are talking about Rights. I brought up the culture of the native americans because it fit the conversation. You seem to have brought up gay marrige because you cant actually think of a response for what I said that fit in the conversation. Besides, I think you really missed my stance on gay marrige. CAn we stop being fuck sticks and get back to the real conversation? Or do you want to continue to bring up old arguments that you lost?

No, its fine. In fact I encourage it 100%.

Its all of the above. Its typically physical since those are the skills that are needed (at the moment) for survival. Its all about continuation of the species.

However, as we evolve...it may become mental or emotional capacity.

I would argue that our evolution created the emotions that we have. Fear is a universal emotion. Over coming our emotions with rational thought is the hard thing to do.

The natural reaction to something we don't understand is Fear. We, as a people tend to ban, kill or destroy what we fear.

Yeah I mean as long as I don't try to melt people with it...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Exactly. And if you do try, I'll kill you. With The Dark's lawnmower. :)

I'd be willing to give up my right to own a gun in exchange for the murder statistics of other countries (including Canada).

Which wouldn't be a hard chioce to make since I've never owned a gun nor had any desire to.

Maybe you'd also like their per capita income and tax rate. :)

Hmm... I don't recall anyone having lost OR won that argument. I believe, like most debates here on DGN, it ended in stalemate, with all parties just kinda letting the topic die.

As far as the period of history I was referring to, simply put, there WAS a period of time when the general public didn't have access to a lot of weaponry beyond fists & knives. Yes, pistols and their like existed, but not in the proliferation they do now. My point was, and still is, valid.

And "gay marriage" was not the subject of my point, and you know it. You, in a side-topic within this thread, brought up the NA's and the white man's right to quash their culture & lifestyle because of their stubbornness in adhering to a so-called "stone age". I pointed out how your own point seems weak since you once used exactly the same language to support something within your own culture & traditions that you felt was threatened. I fail to see how your culture & traditions are more important than those of the NA's.

In the interest in retaining my own civility, I will let the rest pass.

Didn't I give up my moderator privileges? :p Simmer down everybody...we're just having a friendly debate.

I thought the gay-marriage post was funny, and further illustrates the point of advocation of freedom to own firearms. People also have the right to love whom they will, they should have the right to marriage.

NA culture and tradition are not less important than our current culture and tradiition. Its just that we won and they lost. Furthermore, I don't think that was The Dark's point. It seemed as if he just wanted to demonstrate that NA's were humans like us. Unlike many other cultures who were dominated in warfare, NA's do seem to get quite a few "privileges". I'm in agreement that it is not right. Keep in mind, they're infringing on my right to decide whether or not I want to pay for it. If you, FC, chose to set up a private fund for this cause, more power to you. I might even contribute.

Just don't tell me I have to.

I know that a lot of people in this country ar taxaphobes... but yes I wouldn't mind the income tax rate if I could get free health care, collage, and saftety for my kid... that seems like a no brainer to me...

Yup... I cannot put a price tag on my daughter...

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm sure she's very precious to you. However, there are other things that I would like to spend my money on. I don't think I should be forced to face possible prison time if I don't want to pay for her.
