We are home. We are safe. We are thankful.

Thanks for the concern, but the post was actually to try to ALLEVIATE concern. Big-time backfire. Sorry!

I was very drunk. And my typing reflects that.

Jon was supposed to be DD last night. Once again, he misjudged the amount he was drinking and ended up extraordinarily drunk. Totally blotto. I'll save the gross details, but he was NOT a pretty sight last night.

I was also drunk. But when I saw how bad Jon was, I went into panic mode. I mean, we were both REALLY drunk. At first, my thought was to try to sober HIM up. But then I realized that was totally out of the question. So I had to work really, really, really hard to try to sober up myself.

I was going to just get a room to save our possibly killing ourselves or someone else on the drive home, but I was told the rates were $80-$90, and we just didn't have that. So with the help of many, many WONDERFUL Dgn'ers, I managed to clear my head enough to get Jon home.

It took lots of steely determination, and much belting of Judy Garland songs to do it. But we got home safe. And I posted the above to let concerned DGN'ers know we did not die on the way home.

I'm pretty pissed about the whole thing. I've always had a pretty strict "no driving drunk" policy. Jon got an earful BIG TIME from me. I'm ashamed, pissed, and above all, thankful that nobody got hurt as a result of this.

People who say, "I'm actually a better driver when I'm drunk 'cause I have to concentrate so hard" are full of complete shit. Yes, you might be able to drive straighter due to the uber-need to not draw attention to yourself. But response time is horrible. If anyone had stopped fast in front of me, we'd be dead. I'm so totally pissed, pissed, pissed.

And we did get passed by at least one police car on the way. Police car or angel? Dunno.

Jon's not just going to "cut down" on drinking. Jon has quit - period. If you see him drinking at the club, please do feel free to join me in thrashing him mightily. I myself am cutting down. I almost never drink, except at the club. But I don't need to drink that much.

Thanks for the concern, really. I didn't mean to scare anyone. I'll post more about our evening in the aftermath thread. I have a lot of people to thank.

First of all, I am glad that you made it home safely. That is important to me and everyone else here.

Secondly - don't drive drunk. The threat of danger to yourselves and everyone else out there is just way too severe. How much longer were they open? Why exactly did you HAVE to leave right then? Don't let your pride and embarassment over your partners drunkenness overrule your sensibilities. Call a cab and come back for your vehicle. Sit in the bar or in the car at the parking lot until you KNOW you are ready. Hell, call the police and ask for the MADD number to get a ride home. Anything but drive drunk.

Additionally, if you *think* you are ready and okay to drive and find otherwise...STOP DRIVING. Period. I know it is dangerous to just pull over in the middle of downtown Detroit but find a nicely lit gas station or casino lot or... at the absolute least find the nearest spot that you feel the threat of physical danger is lessened and wait it out. Keep a blanket in your car for this and other emergency purposes.

I have narcolepsy and have had difficulty with nightime driving of anything more than a modest distance. I have pulled over numerous times, taken a nap, and have had no trouble from police or anyone for this (except of course when I did it in my car with expired tabs).

I know that this may not be viewed as a supportive post, but in retrospect, do try to see it that way.

I'm so relieved you guys are safe.

Not directed specifically toward you two, but to everyone - it is very possible to have lots and lots of fun at CC without drinking at all, or just having a soda or water (and a lot cheaper too). Try it! ;)

I was worried about quite a few people I saw, and didn't appreciate the numerous piles of puke. Seemed there were way more than usual. The club did seem to start out much cleaner than usual though.

I did have a great time though, will post about it later, and sorry I didn't know you two needed some help - you could have crashed with me and my friend till morning and I know it would not have been a problem at ALL.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I didn't even know you were there, Onyx. Wish I had - I would have loved to have chatted with you.

And I very much appreciate the offer. I might have taken you up on it if circumstances had allowed. Would have even offered you half the room fee for your trouble.

We really had a lot of people looking out for us last night. It was, in it's own way, very sobering. I don't anticipate a replay of the same scenario - EVER. But if ever in need, it's heartening to know so many people out there are willing to help.

And, just an FYI to anyone reading this - Jon and I are also willing to help where/when we can. We don't usually offer rides to anyone, much as we'd like to, because our truck is a 2-seater with no seatbelt for additional passengers. But in an emergency situation, we can put someone in the extended cab area in back. If we ever get the damned area cleaned out and organized, that is.

But we're willing to help in other ways, too. Just say the word.
