Covering up body blemishes - tips please

Recommended Posts

I'm less than happy with the condition of my upper arms & shoulders. I have scars & tiny scratches from where the cats "butter" me with claws extended (working on stopping them of that), and I also have a genetic skin condition that causes redness & bumpiness in the same area.

I'd like to go out with my upper body more exposed, fat be damned. But I'd at least like to even out my skin in that area.

I ordinarily don't spend very much on cosmetics. Revlon's Colorstay line is absolutely fine for me when it comes to facial make-up, and I do need to experiment with it to see if it'll help in this area.

But I know there are transvestites out there who like to cover 4:00 shadow, and professional make-up artists use make-up tricks to hide tattoos on actresses for films. But I haven't a clue what to look for.

Any recommendations are welcome.

i am not sure about arms and leggs... but i know for those annoying bumps you get at the bottom of you butt and other shaving bumps and rashes...... i use a Body brush.... when ever i shower i brush my skin with it lightly in most areas and a little rougher in areas where the bumps get bad..... i use what ever body wash i have on the brush.... after the shower or bath i use what ever lotion i have on hand (usually dollar store stuff) and rub it all over..... for me the bumps come from hairs that grow in instead of out and this seems to help the most.....

If you have a skin condition ( i assume you will have insurance soon from Jons job) i would consult a dermatologist to see what they recomend.

as for covering is up i have no idea...... My mom had a huge scar on her Kneck from sugery and she used Scar reducing Cream by Fiske industries the hand and body formula it helps heal and conceals hand and body scars, just apply evenly to clean dry skin and re apply when needed...... link that is the only link i can find right now for it.... she had a large scar and it helped. i think the people who help cancer victims who loose there Hair Feel Pretty sugested it to her...

I consulted a dermatologist about this probably 10 years ago. He said that it's a genetic condition and you either have it or you don't, and it's pretty widespread in humans. He gave me a prescription for a topical cream to use every day, and said he'd renew it the rest of my life if I wanted it. It doesn't cure it totally, but does lessen it considerably.

I'll be going back to see the same guy pretty soon to get more of that cream. Our insurance kicked in in December.

Brenda - where can I find Dermablend?

Thanks, all, for the great tips here! =)

This is what seems to happen on my upper arms and upper thighs. If the skin is kept well exfoliated and moisturized, the hairs grow natural...but if not, it is like the skin is too tough for the hairs to push through.
