Wounds Within
An Italian court is tackling Jesus and whether the Roman Catholic Church may be breaking the law by teaching that he existed 2,000 years ago. This very well might be one of the most interesting articles I have read in recent times. http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/01/04...reut/index.html

n0Mad
There's enough historical evidence to support the fact that Jesus did in fact live about 2,000 years ago. Whether he was the son of god or not is another matter entirely. For a different look at that subject read this. Of course, I haven't read it so I can't really provide any input, but I've read about it and it sounds quite intriquing.

Blackmail
Wow this Cascioli guys sounds like a major jerk and is obviously going to get laughed at. Plus to do it in Italy? There are many hard core Catholics there who won't be happy to hear this.
phee
I am not Christian... but yes Christ did exist... WTF? And yes Christians can be quite oppressive
Brenda Starrr
I'm an open-minded Christian. Not all Christians are opressive. It's really insulting to be lumped into a general category.
Msterbeau
And it's the Christians you people say are oppressive. What oppression? All I see is a man trying to get his views (He would say facts, although that's clearly debateable) validated by the courts... a completely inappropriate forum, in my opinion. It says he's written a book... That and lecturing would seem the right way to convince people, if he feels what he says is true. The courts there are frustrated by this person... I doubt it's going anywhere. I don't think the Catholics there will be "oppressed" because of this any time soon. Anyone have a clue what the laws are in Italy on free speach and freedom of religion? The_Dark
I know that the State religion of Italy is Roman Catholic and that they have freedom of speech.. as long as they don't defame anyone in the government. and trying to make it illegal to teach about a central figure in your religion is oppression. I myself am not christian, but I do know many more open minded Christians who are not opressive at all and have become great friends.

odims_sphere
I like the way Penn and Teller explained it on their show Bullshit! There probably was a man around that time named Jesus, Hell I know a guy named Jesus he lives down the street from me. He probably did claim to be the son of god. Lots of people now do that we call them crazy. There is historical evidence to support that there were many people around that time claiming to be prophets and messiahs. How was this Jesus's claim any more valid then any of the others? Who is to say except god himself and he only seems to talk to psyco homeless people.
