SCORE!!!

Recommended Posts

Jon and I hae been attacking thrift stores from Southgate to Ann Arbor over the past week. Boy, have I gotten lucky for a change.

I got to one of them just after they had put out two pairs of very, very cool shoes. The first pair are by Hot Topic, they're what I think are called oxfords, with high platform heels, and are black cherry patent leather, so they color-change from black to deep, bloody red.

The 2nd pair are the best find, however. A pair of Anarchic leather creepers, black with red insets, with cut-outs of black stars, one on front and three on back.

AND BOTH IN MY SIZE!!! DAMN!!! :grin

I've also been scoring big time with skirts. I managed to find a Torrid label goth-a-billy skirt that's a-line, with a black cherry-print on top, and a pinstripe underneath, and the cherry hikes up to show the pinstriping. And, again, MY size! Actually, to be honest, a tad too big. But man, that'll look good with the creepers I found.

Today, I found a black a-line skirt with a lace crinoline underneath, and a heavy black-cherry lace skirt as well.

Then, this evening, I stopped into Deb on a whim close to closing time. SCORE! Got this great dress from their "formal" line, with a black skirt with a net underskirt that is hemmed with hot pink satin. I intend to cut that one down into a skirt.

And I paid..... (drum roll)..... $3.00!!!!

SCORE!!!! :woot:

I just love seeing this. Sometimes someone gets something they just don't like, it might be new even.....tags still attached. It is a shame to let such things go to waste good shopping M'lady.

This is one of the best times to look. People clean out there closets to make room for the xmas stuff. Fall is good, spring.....and after Christmas.

I so rarely do well at thrift shops. This was a VERY exceptional week. I anticipate a dry spell to come for quite some time.

As for resale business, Steven, I sell on eBay. :wink Currently not up-and-running, but I should be back doing it full-time come late spring.

I'm also picking up different fashions than I have before. I used to focus on a more punk look, with tight short skirts under some kind of punk-theme t-shirt, that sort of thing. Now that I picked up that oft-mentioned corset, I'm actually able to move into a more obviously "goth" direction.

The biggest problem is my skirts, by far, outnumber the number of tops I have to wear. So I'm still frustrated on that end.

Thanks for the tip, DR.

The Scoring continues. I was up all night one day last week, browsing the web trying to find plus-sized, reasonably priced fishnet or mesh shirts to wear with corsets. I couldn't find anything decent (most "one size fits most" were made for a size 11 - isn't the average size in the U.S. today a 12 or 14?). Then I thought, 'Hey, how about the men's shirts on Hot Topic?"

They had 3 I wanted. Two are your typical plain fishnet, one in black, the other in red. The third is black, with big holes worked into it. The red & holey ones were on clearance. But I couldn't complete my order 'cause I'm using a gift card as partial payment. So I ended up calling them yesterday to place my order. Before doing so, I went back to the website to get the sku numbers, and lo and behold - the two shirts that were on clearance had been dropped in price AGAIN.

So I'm getting 3 shirts for $27.00, including tax, shipping & using the gift card. Pretty damned good, considering the holey shirt alone was originally $25.00.

That's the end of my spending for a while. All the Christmas money is gone, and we're back to a tighter budget for a while while we take care of some needs.
