Glassworking Technology

There's a magic trick out there with a glass disk about an inch or so in diameter. The spectator picks a card, then looks at the disk. Nothing. The spectator then breathes on the disk and the name of the card appears in in the glass.

So my question is, what is the technology to do this? Can it be done on plexi, or does it have to be glass? Is it something I could conceivably do myself, or would I have to hire someone to manufacture it for me?

What about mirrors? I know it's silver paint on glass but is it something I could conceivably do myself, or would I have to hire someone? Can plexi be used to make a mirror, or does it have to be glass? Can the above technology be used on a mirror?

How about frosting, etching, smoking, and other sorts of printing? Again, will plexi work or is it strictly glass? I'm pretty sure I'd have to hire somebody to do that for me as it's a bit trickier. Any internet resources I can check out, either informative, instructional, or companies I could hire?

I'm working on an art piece and hopefully I can accomplish what I'm envisioning. Any help and advice from somebody in the know would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I was in a glass shop for about 2 years, some questions I can answer, others I can ask about, but plexi mirrors I find better than glass ones as long as they never ever scratch across anything, I know how to write behind a mirror, but it's a bit of a pain unless you have infinate patience and one heck of a steady hand, there are different solvents you can use on glass that may be possible to write something on it with and fog to see it though, alco glass in berkley would know more than I would, they do everything with glasss and are at 12 mile and greenfield if that helps. good luck finding what you're looking for
