Fierce Critter
I think I have something somewhere set wrong on my display or possibly through XP or something. I have a ViewSonic E771 monitor. I've been to their website, and I have my resolution and DPI set correctly. But the left and right are hanging off the sides of the monitor, and my horizontal size is all the way to 0. I have been messing with this for a couple days now, and now I have an additional problem. Check out the screenshot I'm attaching. See how large the icons are in the start bar? I could swear they were smaller before I started messing with all this. And I KNOW the minimize/maximize/x-out icons at top right are larger than they were. I can't find anything on ViewSonic's webpage to clue me in what to do about this. And I'm not having any luck searching Windows' help files or troubleshooter on my computer. Any clues what to do about this? One last thing - I've tried adjusting the resolution under display properties, and nothing else works. I can manage to get an entire window onscreen, but then everything's too small, or too narrow, etc.

You can adjust the width and height there. sounds like the monitor went out of sync and needs to be readjusted. Right click on the toolbar and select propereties, you can adjust Icon size in the start menu there. Trying to find where the screen icon size adjutment is. And there is no selection for icon size on the start menu, and that doesn't fix the size of the minimize/maximize/x buttons either.

Rayne
Start > Control Panel > Display Settings > Tab that says "Settings". Make sure your screen resolution and colour quality is set correctly. Some games and programs will automatically change them. Here's a screen shot of my settings: (I'm running on a new Toshiba laptop, so yours might be a bit different) It wouldn't upload as an attachment so I linked it from Photobucket ... Fierce Critter
Not the refresh rate nor my resolution/color settings. Thanks for the suggestions, however. Looking into driver updates. Will report back if that helps.
Shade Everdark
One thing to consider about the huge buttons on your menu bar. It might be that some accessibility settings got altered accidentally.
Fierce Critter
I am now totally confused. I downloaded an update for the driver for my vid card. Doesn't seem to help. Then, I was messing with the new control panels included with the new driver update, and I could SWEAR I saw the window size squeeze in just a touch on the left. But I still can't fix the majority of the problems. I would download and install an update for the monitor driver iteself, but I can't seem to find one. When I installed this monitor, Win XP automatically installed its own driver for it. But I can't find a manufacturer update. If you care to search, it's a ViewSonic E771. This is so freaking weird. Shade - Good guess on the accessibility thing. But I checked, and there doesn't seem to be any sort of way to change the title bar. So I don't think that's it. Curioser and curioser. By the way - Dark & Dubh - the ghostly line is gone.
Fierce Critter
Problem partially solved. Title Bar / Control Button issue Window Control Buttons Shrink After You Use the Accessibility Wizard View products that this article applies to. Article ID : 306280 Last Review : October 18, 2001 Revision : 1.0 This article was previously published under Q306280 SYMPTOMS After you run the Accessibility Wizard, the window control buttons (Minimize, Restore down, Maximize and Close) may become smaller. CAUSE This problem can occur if you are running Windows XP Windows and Buttons style. The Accessibility Wizard changes the active title bar size to 18, although the default value for the active title bar size is 25 for the Windows XP Windows and Buttons style. This results in a resizing of the window control buttons. RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, after you run the Accessibility Wizard: 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display. 2. On the Appearance tab, click Advanced. 3. In the Item box, click Active Title Bar. 4. In the Size box, click 25. 5. Click OK, and then click OK. 6. Restart your computer.
