Draco1958
Did a quick check for you on Expedia using London as a start point and Detroit as end(of course). Continental Airlines has a 1-stop flight for $786 costs go up from there. Thru Travelocity American Airlines has a non-stop for $798 Prices should be American. For quick checking, I used May 18th as your departure date and May 25th for your return. Check them out with the actual dates you plan to fly on. www.expedia.com www.travelocity.com www.priceline.com priceline is a name your own price plus now does pricing like travelocity. Hope this helps.

AstralCrux
Oh, you can potentially get cheaper flights by flying into City Airport rather than Detroit Metro. Don't remember if they do international.

ZhukovCodeslinger
might be other visits brenda if this all goes to plan. good news is i found out that the US has extended the period in which you can use older machine read passports without a visa. so less £ and paperwork. current worries are: health insurance (my dental cover is worldwide, but health is still on NHS) travel insurance (maybe get a deal on both) accomidation costs (includes taxi's, food, etc.) spending money (club entrance fee's, drinks, other nicities) last time i checked (when the wedding was announced) the flights (from london to detroit direct) were £400 - £500 currently have £800, plus if i cut down my over indulgent spending manner i belive i could add an extra £150 this month and another £350 at the start of may. maybe a bit more as i have no need to comute 40 miles a day for 2 weeks (around £20 in diesel) tempted to get a credit card tbh incase i need more cash and pay it off before interests start <{POST_SNAPBACK}> you should look into flying through canada (part of the commonwealth). You might be able to find a flight with a connection through Toronto to Detroit that would be much cheaper than a direct flight to Detroit or New York. Some people I know have used this trick to save money traveling to and from the UK
Head Wreck
i could try that but there doesnt seem to be the option and i would prefer a straightforward flight (direct) as i hate finding my way about places (buildings and towns just dont agree with my sense of navigation
pomba gira
Cool! I'll definitely have to make a trip down to the 313 & say hi! The going thru Canada option sounds like a winner. Can't see where you'd have to find your way around anywhere besides maybe one more airport! Just out of curiosity, why do you need health insurance? Do you have some chronic health issue to worry about ?

Head Wreck
expedia gives the cheapes flight as: 13:50 Depart London (LGW) Arrive Detroit (DTW) 17:20 Thu 18-May Duration: 8hr 30min Northwest 31 Direct flight 21:25 Depart Detroit (DTW) Arrive London (LGW) 10:05 +1 day Thu 25-May Duration: 7hr 40min Northwest 32 Direct flight so lot of flying time but its direct. less classic HW confusion at terminals (i really do have issues with urban environments. gimmie a bit of mountain and woods and i can get you there, towns cities and most major roads leaves this common saying in my area "everydays an adventure with chris in the car"
pomba gira
I'm curious HW, do most folks 'cross the pond get all that insurance & stuff when they travel? I know I sound like I'm obssessing on this, & I'm by no means suggesting you shouldn't get it... it's just interesting to me 'cos errone in my family travels constantly (I'm the only poor one) & if they bother at all they just have the bare minimum tacked onto their homeowner's policy or whatever. Haha do they still have those vending machines for travel insurance at the airports? I haven't noticed one in years but I used 'em back when I lived in San Francisco & flew back here a few times a year. Nowadays they'd prolly have video displays with graphic footage of fiery plane crashes, grieving families, maimed victims...
