I may end up regretting this, if I do - Oh well. I am positive that this will spin everyone's impression of me in one way or another and I am fully aware that in nearly every case it will be a turn to the negative.

After reading this, I will be treated differenty by some. I will no doubt lose friendships. If this must happen, it is an acceptable loss at this point, I need to move forward with my life.

So, without further ado:

I have genital herpes.

Ostracize me, boo and hiss all you want. This was not a rash decision (no pun intended) on my part. I have been thinking about coming out on this for a long while. If anyone has any questions ask them here or PM me. This will be a huge adjustment but having said it, I feel like I can begin educating people about the subject.

There is so much in this thread and I want people to see the questions and answers, so I am answering any questions (even the hypothetical ones) in this thread.

Anyone who would stop being your friend because you have this is not really worth having as a friend. Unless we are not having sex at all or only have one lifetime sexual partner who only has sex with us in their lifetime we are ALL at risk for herpes and other sexually transmitted infections. Yes there are things we can and should do to decrease the risk, but people make mistakes, shit happens, yadda yadda yadda, and sometimes it happens anyway no matter how careful we are. Stay strong and take care of yourself.

Tina, nothing changes here. I have friends and family with Herpes and HIV. It never changes my love for them. As a matter of fact, these people have AMAZINGLY productive lives! More so thatn so-called "healthy people."

Your still good.

It took a hell of a lot of courage to go public with this information, and I have a lot of respect for you.

I won't repeat what Saechlyn said - she said a lot of what I wanted to say already, but it is all very true, and relevant to us all.
