Detroit fashion week?

Recommended Posts

I woke up one day almost obsessing about how I could get it done. Mostly, because I'd love to see this town just exploding with goth fashion. If you've seen clips or video from New York or Paris fashion weeks- it is predominantly runway shows and big afterparties. But, damn the afterparties would be fun!

Any ideas on how I could get it started?

Any ideas for me Brenda? I want to see if I can hold it at that American Beauty iron/steel factory.... It is empty after all, I think. Wonder who owns the buildings..... God the afterparties alone. I want to invite the who's who in goth bands to the event. Oh, the afterparties.

Chaos is doing a show this Saturday at the Labyrinth that will include some runway modeling work in addition to a sampling of some Dark Carnival performances and our usual fetish shows.

Some people think the only thing Chaos does is fetish shows. Others think the Dark Carnival is our only offering. So, we're launching a whole new website to show our diversity and this Saturday is the release party.

A flyer and more info can be found here.

So ... yeah. There are a lot of models who would love to do more fashion and runway work so this would be a perfect venue. I'm sure you'll get lots of support on this. I'm currently choreographing sword fights for a production of "The Three Musketeers" and until the run is over, I won't be to many Chaos meetings, but I will bring the idea up with Ally and see what she thinks and get back to you when I get a chance.

And Kelly, thanks for the support.

I worked with Chaos but becuase I wasnt on my own, I was forced to quite over a misunderstanding.

However, I still keep in contact with a few folks from the crew, Spook mostly. As for keeping in contact with Boss 1 and Boss 2, it's rare. =(

Now, if there ever were some sort of event in Detroit where people put on their best and strut their stuff, I wouldnt mind draining my checking account for a few new articles of clothing. oo;

That'd be fun as hell.

I'd say though, to start a few trends or whatever, go to mass shows where a lot of people would be. Network. Straight out NETWORK. Like Dirtfest. It may be a rock show with multiple rock, punk, metal and hardcore bands, but I merely wore black pants, a white oxford shirt and my burgundy corset and i got compliments on it. After I took the corset off to wear a t-shirt to promote Downtown Brown, I had been walking around the grounds and a guy from the band Mindrought asked if I was the one wearing the corset earlier. I said yes and he said it looked pretty cool.

Basically, to start something that big, start small at places where there'll be a lot of people, and dress yourself up. It shouldnt matter if you look like you're trying to be the centre of attention, but if people want to know the 'who, what, where, when, why and how' of the deal, bring business cards and freaking Network as best you can.

Hell, that's what I use Myspace for. =P

It's always good to have a pen, businesscards/paper on hand, that way if people want to keep in contact for whatever reason or another, it should have your email or a number to contact you, and hopefully some sort of website.

Any particular show or event that happens, dress to impress yourself, and network. =3

(( matter of fact, I need to plan for Dirtfest, and DEMF and whatever else happens around the better weather months of the year ))

You should have seen me when I woke up with the idea in my head. Nothing else could enter my mind and I've been toying with the idea of even bothering for a few weeks. Guess some people do have predestined things in their lives..... Time for mine.

Speaking of Noir, I was there today and chatted with my friend who works there and she likes the idea. I also dropped $120 on some new clothes and plan on ordering some more so I need a good venue to model it off, and it'd be good if it was one they sponsored.

Yes well, not everyone can easily afford Noir.

<<;

'Specially not me. ;_;

And if it's a thing they're sponsoring, they'll probably love it if everyone and their sister were wearing the product. e.e
