th.sin
Please help! I'll be visiting Detroit quite soon, so I was hoping to find out if there any Underground Clothing Thrift Shops in Detroit Area that cater to "Goth / Cyber / Punk clothing-minded" individuals? I'll appreciate any info. Also... any good craft shops that would carry let's say D-Ring tape? Thank you so much, th.sin
kellygrrrrrl
There is a million thrift stores on Gratiot between I696 and 16 Mile...a ton of record stores, and alot of great shopping if you go slow enough to catch what's on Gratiot. There is Show Time in Detroit...couldn't tell you how to get there, but I'm sure you can look it up.... Platos closet on John R between 12-13 mile in the Target Plaza....which caters more towards womens clothing though from what I hear.... Hot Topic in most of the malls around here....the one in Oakland Mall is pretty decent....but the one at Great Lakes Crossings is the best..I think...it is one of the bigger stores. th.sin
WOW! Great! Thank you for the info! Do you know if any of them (thrift shops) are better than others? In Portland, OR there's a large store called Buffullo exchange that is a resale shop that carries only Goth/Punk/Cyber items. I was hoping to find something like that in Michigan... is there any chance? kellygrrrrrl
it's all luck. if you have time, and patience to look through the scattered mess...you can usually find something good at any thrift shop. I can't think of any in particular cause when I go out, I go to Gratiot, and just go down the line and buy what I can at each place. There just happens to be a lot of thrift store on Gratiot - conveniently.... I like ShowTime, but they are a bit pricey.....however, they usually have some really unique stuff....it's not really "Thrift" though....

n0Mad
I'm down!let me know <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It may be a while though. Right now I'm dropping some money on costume pieces for "The Three Musketeers" (I'm choreographing the sword fights and playing Bicarat). I found some awesome boots for around $100. The next paycheck goes to ordering a vinyl kilt from Noir. Yes, you heard that right: a vinyl kilt! After that, then we can go shopping. (Unless you want to meet me at Noir and laugh at me when I place my order.)
kellygrrrrrl
I understand....my wallet is not being nice to me lately. I've tried calling the people that send me bills to tell them to stop sending me bills, but they don't listen. I should have $ sometime next month... :confused ....BTW...I'm already laughing :laughing !

Msterbeau
Mother Fletchers in Ferndale has great stuff... Not particularly gothy... but definitely a snoop-worthy establishment.
th.sin
Damn, looks like 2 days in Detroit is not going to be enough to snoop around all of the thrift store spots! Thanks for the info. Have to go "yahoomaps" now to see how to get to Ferndale, how long is the drive to Ferndale, let's say from the cemetary on Mt Elliott off Jeffeson (sorry, but that's the onl;y other spot, besided INS that's like the center of the city for me (since I do not know it too well)? Msterbeau
Ferndale is centered on 9 Mile Road and Woodward Ave. VERY easy to find. I696 is a mile north up Woodward. I-75 is a couple miles east on 9 Mile. Mother Fletchers is West of Woodward on the north side of the road ... first block

ZhukovCodeslinger
ZhukovCodeslinger, hey! I've heard that Showime is pricey... How much did you pay for your jacket? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it was around $1600 for pants, jacket, armor and alterations (i was fitted for the suit and it took about 2 months to get it made and sent to me back in 1994 before Ebay) Some of showtimes stuff is pricey... but you might be able to sell stuff to them (they are independent) Zhuk is easier to type.
