I get these news letters from our claims department...today the topic is "5 Rlues for Driving in Metro-Detroit"

1: Never get in the way of a car that needs extensive body work. (Remember no-fault insurance, he might not have much to lose...you do.)

2: Construction signs tell you about road closures immediately after you pass the exit before the traffic begins to back up.

3. Always slow down and rubber neck when you see an accident or even a person changing a tire. It might be more interesting that the article in lastweeks National Enquirer

4. Learn to swerve abruptly. Detroit is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to MDot, which puts pot-holes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes abd keep them on thier toes....

5. Turn signals are just clues as to your next move in the road battle...so never use them

This is suppose to be serious?

I went to Chicago about 2 months ago for my first time....funny you should mention :laughing :confused

I thought to myself...good god, these people are worse than Detroit drivers! I swear I almost got rearended and side swiped at least 3-4 times in the less than 24 hours that I was there....AND there is no fast/slow lane in Chicago either....I learned that you just have to drive 20-30 over the speed limit to avoid getting tailgated, honked at, or getting swerved around and then braked.... :confused

Jeez

Well, it describes pretty well some driving I've run into in Detroit.

Looks like a joke email though.

Personally I think Chicago is way worse.  I'd much rather drive in Detroit.

You know, maybe it's just because I don't spend a whole lot of time driving in Chicago, but when I've driven through to go visit my family in Wisconsin, it never seemed quite as bad as Detroit. The only complaint I had was that the minimum speed limit seems to be 90 mph.

Detroit and Chicago driving are different for sure.. People tend to pay more attention in Detroit, where in Chicago they just don't give a fuck and usually drive like they own the road..

The road conditions in Detroit are definitely much worse than Chicago, every time I've driven in Detroit I feel like I'm off-roading with all the potholes.

What? You guys don't like playing avoid the potholes? I miss the ones on 75! (j/k) I've been to Chicago and I drive in Detroit. I think my driving skills have improved significantly from driving there- it prepares you for suburban people who can afford to replace their cars without batting an eyelash! I'm scared of the suburbs!

Chicago is insane, and more crazy than Detroit, but to survive you just have to remember to push other people around just as much or more than they try to do to you. Don't use blinkers cuz they'll shut off that space you thought you saw, make people think you'll hit them, and drive 20-30 mph over the speed limit. Aside from that, just cross your fingers...

Most people I see don't use them anyhow.

Not to mention I counted about 10 or so people the other day with a break light or tail light out (tail light being the one that's on all the time when the headlights are on).

Keeping up with traffic usually means going 5-10 MPH over the speed limit. I tend to piss most people off because I tend to do the limit and sometimes the minimum.

When the light turns green wait at least 3 seconds before going forward.

I think the tests they give people aren't nearly hard enough.
