Last I checked... Mexicans were of Spanish decent mixed with African and Native American. The average Mexican is about 1/3 to 1/2 Spanish and depending on what part of Mexico they are from the rest is a balance of native American and African. In some areas of mexico the African portion is more than half.

How did those areas become spanish speaking? Because they were Spanish colonies at one time and most of the people there are of Spanish decent.

Most of the South-West Hemposphere is Hispanic because Spain colonized most of it. The remainder was colonized by Portugal. Hell, Portugal is Hispanic if you go back far enough though they have not spoken Spanish there in a very long time.

All I'm saying is that it's considered proper usage to refer to Mexicans as Hispanic. What you've provided may be considered backup for this, I suppose.
