The Truth About Mexican Food

Hola Amigos!

Mexican food - It's awesome. There can be no debate.

Saturday I went to Azteca in Madison Heights and had a potato enchilada, a bean burrito, a cheese qeausidia, a cheese enchilada, beans and rice and for desert: flan.

Sunday I went grocery shopping while still on my Mexican food kick, it resulted in myself making the best cheese enchiladas ever, even people in Tijuana heard about my burritos and were calling me asking for my secret.

I once dated a hot little latina who's family hailed from Toluca, Mexico. The family loved Mexican food but my girlfriend hated it. So I was not able to take full advantage of her father's cooking (I was however able to take advantage of his daughter).

Mexican Village in Detroit is absolutely fantastic. Zumba in Royal Oak is among the best food in the entire galaxy.

This is the truth about Mexican food.

The truth is that mexican food makes me fart. A lot. But, I still eat it. That way, if I have unwanted visitors, I can easily drive them out of my home. A lil methane goes a long way.

You're such a creative yet practical woman. No wonder I love you so much. I'll just stay away after mexican food nights.. :whistling

Being part Mexican I have had the pleasure of eating a lot of good Grandma cooked meals. I liked Mexican town as well, it's pretty authentic to me. I really enjoy enchiladas the best. I found that the cheese enchiladas by Linda McCartney are excellent. I get them at Whole Foods. I am not a vegetarian and do eat meat a couple times a week. Still, these taste great for frozen.

As I mentioned in another thread, I was getting tamales from a woman in North Carolina that has ruined me for "inauthentic" Mexican food like Taco Bell, Chi-Chi's, etc.

This was a little old Mexican woman, didn't speak a word of English - her daughter would help you figure out what varieties she was selling out of the back of her van that day. Her chicken ones were mild, the pork ones a bit more spicy. They were incredible.

Not being able to satisfy myself with only once-a-week Tamale Lady fixes inspired me to try to make my own. Picked up Maseca corn meal, corn husks, and downloaded some recipes from the 'net. Mutherfuckers were the hardest things I've ever made, and I never got even close to hers. Though my mango/pineapple dessert ones were pretty freakin' good, I must say.

Here in Michigan again, I tend to like Mexican restaurants that aren't the big-name chains. I have a Pancho's a couple miles from me here in Wyandotte, and damn if they're not fine. They have a restaurant in Lincoln Park and one in Riverview as well. Damned authentic.

Also like Mexican Gardens in Southgate.

I have a love/hate relationship with Taco Bell. They're always discontinuing the things I like best there. You can't rightfully complain about Taco Bell, though, you know? Authentic is better, but sometimes you just gotta Run For The Border.

I discovered Rayne's beloved Del Taco in Dearborn a couple months ago. I think their prices are ridiculous for the size of the "better" items like steak & chicken tacos. But I get serious cravings for their crunchy fish tacos. Love a soft taco made with corn vs. flour tortillas, and that's one thing I like about them vs. Taco Bell.
