Onyx
oops - posted mine at the same time as yours, lol I haven't been following this story because I thought she was really already dead and it's been so depressing to contemplate. What has happened along the way in this story? Why do you think she was let go when they killed so many others?

The_Dark
I think she was not killed for the same reason that German woman wasn't. I think she was in on it. If you don't remember the german woman, she was the one that was kidnapped, the german government paid a ransom for her and then when she showed up back in germany she had a portion of the ransom money on her person. Onyx
Interesting article by Jill here: IN JILL CARROLL'S OWN WORDS: Why she went to cover Iraq Sense of journalistic duty overrides safety January 21, 2006 BY JILL CARROLL Jill Carroll, 28, was abducted Jan. 7 in Baghdad, Iraq, on her way to an interview. (Family video via Associated Press) Almost a year before she was taken hostage by the Revenge Brigade, freelance writer and Ann Arbor native Jill Carroll wrote the following story for the American Journalism Review. She writes about her ambitions and the chilling reality that foreigners in Iraq, including journalists, face every day -- the threat of kidnapping and execution. This is an edited version of her story that appeared under the title "What a way to make a living."
