Rollerblading

So i decided to add a new "sport" to my ever expanding list of ways of getting my fat ass out and about and went out and bought some rollerblades. Now, I havent skated in at least ten years an thought, "hey ill drop 300 bucks on nice skates and gear and go teach myself to blade," it'll be fun and exciting..... ahh but gravity intervenes. Like the bastard older brother that steals your shit, gravity kicked my ass this first time out. Not only did I manage to face plant into the cement, I also ripped a chunk out of my brand new skates. Uggg... Felt like such an ass and to top it off I twisted up my wrist pretty good and my sholder is killing me. So to combat this, I'm enjoying a long island and viocdin this evening. Pobably going to be an early night.

Anyone else into this oh so painful pastime?

I don't need no stinkin rollerblades.  I got's me some quads.  Come out this way and I'll skate with ya, I have a great park for it here.

I might take you up on that Tina. Its been a while since I've seen you. Kittykatkat and I are trying this skating thing but so far, not so good. We both are kinda into the idea but umm the whole pain thing tonight was kind of a put off. We found out that a local park actually has an in-line rink and theirs a local skate park but thats out of my league for the time being. With my new job I get weekends off so maybe we'll come down early sometime soon, go skating and hit a club?

You should stick with the exercise bike, Nick. :wink

Ill keep at that and my weight routine but I have to get this blading thing down. I spent the cash on them and it's something me and my girl can do togther thats active aside from the occasional night out dancing and all the sex. It was nice getting to go out tonight with her and just mulling around so I'm going to make this work if it kills me.

It takes some getting used to but blading can be fun.

I used to do it all the time. Believe me I came home with some bumps and bruises. I got a rock in my hand and soaked my wrist guard with blood once. I fell down on one knee so many times that I messed that knee up.

You get up and go again. It's life.

I love to blade!

Love it!

But, I had skates since I was a child.

It's sort of like ice skating, but different.

This one time at Kensington, I was skating on the side of the road near the Kensington Police office....(Some of you may know exactly what I am talking about....) yeah that reeeeeallyy big hill....Well, I went to down it, and on the way down while breaking, I wore out my brakes, and gained speed....so I veered off the side of the road and did the "tuck and roll" thing.... :laughing and ended up with 2 bloody knees and elbows.....that didn't stop me from doing it again!....I re-opened the scab from the same wound doing that again....

Still hasn't stopped me.

:cool

I have been meaning to buy some rollerblades in the spring and give it a try but now you are scaring me. Is it really that hard? I don't want to break an anckle or something on my first time out. I can be a little clumsey at times.

No being that this was one of my first time on skates in years I cant say it was all that hard just start out somewhere flat, preferably a parking lot or rink somewhere....

Hummm DGN skate party? I can just see "goths" on skates. Maybe we can slip some EBM into the lineup between the chicken dance ans shoot the duck?

Anyway, Dont be discouraged. As the other more accomplished DGN members have said it takes time and bruises and in my case, determinataion.

I learned to skate when I was 4. Your so close to the ground and flexible and heal so fast it is easy at that age.

Now I wear a helmet....wrist guards....A MUST......your lucky you didn't break it.

Knee pads....elbow pads.....clothes I don't mind tearing. I look like such a geek...oh and goggles because I skate where there are bugs.

I should take a pic it is too funny.

My man is trying to learn, he just goes real slow.

Head for the grass if in doubt.......roll after you fall, try to land on hip...or pads or guards. Some people use ski poles or broom handles until they are used to it.

It takes a year to get good so be patient.

I know your probably giving up but people say my legs look like a body builders and it is all from the bike and skating, I can't do lunges. I think the skating is what really does it for my legs. It is what Tony Danza does too.....two hours a day and what a fine ass on that older man. Hubba hubba.

Oh Im not giving up. One fall does not deter me from getting some enjoyment out of this. I just went out and spent the money on the protective gear as you suggested. I'm going back out tommorow assuming the weather holds. I've dying to get my mountain bike out but my girl doesnt know how to bike so we got skates to do something togther that we both are bad at. I'm sure after a year or two I'll be zipping around like a seasoned pro its just going to be a long bumpy road. Im feeling better this morning after two days of agony from the damn accident. But live and learn, get up and do it again.
