Savage Garden in Toronto

Recommended Posts

So, I'm going to Toronto tomorrow for the weekend, and was wanting to check out at least one club there. I've gotten some info about a few places, but I'd like to compare notes. The one that's looking most likely to happen right now (since they have a night on Saturday) is Savage Garden. I've heard mixed things about this place, including that they might have pretty strict bouncers who'll deny entry if you're not goth enough.

So, who's been here and can give me the low-down?

I've been there and liked it a lot, however I did hear a few stories about the "not goth enough" thing happening and some not being let in. I think it may depend on who is working, so dress accordingly.

Also if you happen to be around Sunday nights, The Vatikan is a really neat place.

I love Toronto. Wish the exchange rate was still fabulous like it used to be. It's still a great place to visit though.

Edited to add - Looks like The Vatikan has added more nights. Definitely would be on my list of places to go.

Thanks, Onyx. :)

I actually got ahold of that Toronto-goth site yesterday, and it led me to some reviews about various clubs, and the ones about Savage Garden were a mix of enthusiasm and things that echoed what I'd already heard about the strict dress code. I'm not so much worried about me, since I'll be wearing vinyl boots and a corset, but my boyfriend won't be doing much more than wearing all black, and if that's not enough to get him in, then some bouncer might end up with my boot in his eye. :grin

Oh, also, thanks for the info about the Vatikan. I'd looked them up yesterday, too and was bummed that we won't be able to catch it on Sunday. It seems like other than Sunday nights, they've become a live venue instead of a club; weird concept.

that toronto goth website was pretty cool....

The part i liked best was the "closed clubs" area..

I have not thought about a lot of those clubs in quite a while. I really miss Catch 22. They had the coolest dance floor! Limelight was nice also... same with gas works (It wasnt listed but there were lots of goths in there mixed with normal people in a '54 type attitude).

Savage garden used to be a lot cooler when it was competing with sanctuary. Its patrons have become less edgy, but the space is really awesome!

Well, it's our only choice pretty much, so we're making do.

And it could be different now.. I went about 2 years ago on a Saturday night. The crowd seemed kinda snooty. I LOVE Toronto though. The shopping on Queen Street is to die for!
