Need info on this, does it work?

From what I understand it is a last resort kind of thing that's done only after other methods have failed and can cause permanent memory loss.

I remember Dick Cavett did it, but nothing else worked for him. I think they'd probably make you try a lot of other things first.

seems rather drastic to me, as opposed to instead setting some goals and re-working how you do your daily life.

somethign youor doing, or not doing, aint working. and you have a void.

Electric current running through your brain tissue is not the replacement.

Question: are you qucik fixing? Because have you considered how many years it took you to reach this place of despondency? It may take a few more years to crawl out. We cant really quick fix what we build over a lifetime.

Looks like you gotta jump through some hoops to get it. (Though, really, isn't like that with any treatment?) Good luck with the scraping.

You know... about 4volts DC dirrectly to the pleasure center of the brain would make for a very very happy life. You would never get off your ass.. and people would most likely have to remind you to eat.. but hey... you would be happy.

I hear lots and lots of drugs are good for that, too.

Also, I wonder if things that are naturally mentally or physically stimulating would serve the same purpose as electroshock therapy. Say... playing chess? taking a jog?

and no... EST is a drastic "rebooting" of synaptic connections. The only thing natural that comes close to it is being hit by lightning.

Since it's so drastic, I assume it's needed in drastic situations. I'm just saying that certain types of physical and mental stimulation would probably be enough for a lot of people without having to fork out the cash.

Oh, and you wouldn't have to get electroshocked. Big bonus there!

This method was tried and failed in psychiatric hospitals through the mid 20th century. Basically it leaves you zombified, frying your neurons one by one til you get to that point where nothing matters anymore, mainly cuz you can't create any cohesive thoughts in order to create worries. I think the reason that they practiced it for so long was cuz it made the doctors happy cuz they didn't have to deal with a rowdy patient anymore; the patient would just stare the tv for hours on end.

Excessive aerosol sniffing would have much the same effect, and would be much cheaper... In other words, don't do it man.
