If you're a christian how can you be for the death penalty? Isn't it (your) God's job to judge?

A lot of christians ignore that part. Or, they think that the meaningful judgment comes after death anyway.

Everyone has to make judgments based on other people, but I think the biblical tenet is to not act upon them and kill someone because you disagree with how they feel or what they did.

I agree... but don;t bring up the cost of Killing them again... it costs far more to keep them alive.

i'd be curious to see where you formed that opinion, not because i'm being a smart-ass, but because someone showed me a link a while back that showed me just the opposite - that it costs a lot more for a death penalty case. i'll try to find that link again so i can put some numbers up, and i'll try to find info on your side as well, but if you have time, would you mind posting some data that supports your assertion that keeping them alive costs more?

I bet there are alot of variables, but it would seem that court costs (appeals cases) would cost more than 3 meals a day for X amount of years.

I bet we could google the answer. I have to leave from work though. Maybe when I get home.

Judge not lest thee be judged. or in laymens terms... Be ready to pay the price for your actions.

People seem to see more in the Bible than is there. judging seems to be one of things wildly misconstrude in my opinion. God already has judgement on certain things... Murder bring one of them.. the Bible says it's ok to kill a murderer.

More specifically, "Judge not, lest ye be judged" seems to condemn hypocrites.

And the Bible says it's okay to kill a WHOLE lot of people that it's no longer okay to kill by modern society's standards. Like most debates, this one would probably be better if we didn't quote the unreliable sources.

I didn't bring up the Bible.. only addressed what others had said. As for being reliable... Thats your opinion... and your welcome to it but we were not talking about factual sorces... so your jab at my religion was uncalled for.

:devil All convicted child molesters and violent murder's,and serial killers need to be destroyed once the 100% proof has been confirmed so no innocent people get their lives ruined.Death penalty all the way,also it would save the system shitloads of money,to be used for better purposes. Source reliability isn't all that subjective. You have to look at whether the author(s) of said source were biased, how recent the source is, if it uses numerical data, if it quotes other reliable sources, et cetera. The Bible is not reliable. Sorry.

And since it sounded like you were defending the Old Testament as opposed to the New, I didn't automatically assume you were Christian. Have you considered Judaism?

I bought up the bible. Why? Because for some (including a few on DGN) it is a second law to live by (or first law).

The Pope is opposed to the death penalty based on the catholic churches interpretation of scripture.

Since I am a catholic, scripture does play into my view on this topic. I posed the question because there are a few Christians on DGN.

But come on, I'd love to see Osama or Al-Zarqawi or Hitler (if I was alive in the 40's) tortured. I mean, like you take Osama and you rip his ear off and make him eat it and then you have a pig lick his blood and then you like totally do the chinese water torture and have some real tough inmates sodomize him and call him the 'b' word and stuff. That would be cool. And it would be cool if it was on Fox.

I think torture is more like for forcing information out of people, not punishing them. I don't personally condone it in either case.
